Wiercioch makes NHL debut tonight
According to Allen Panzeri, Patrick Wiercioch will make his NHL debut tonight against the Canes. Many thought this would be Eric Gryba filling the vacancy left by Sergei Gonchar, but I guess Wiercioch is a more offensive player, and can be used on the powerplay. With Benoit and Smith already having their turn, its nice to see Wiercioch get a shot.

Thanks for posting this
I’m pumped to see him.

Limited expectations
I am pretty excited for Wiercioch long term. I think he is Ottawa’s “sleeper” defensive prospect.
Tonight, I would pair him with Hale if he is still up with the Senators(it is getting hard to keep track) and give them third pairing minutes. Lots of Karlsson-Kuba and Lee-Phillips tonight.
Hale is still up here, and deservedly so.

Oh I don;t have high expectations either
And I too see him playing with Hale. I think its more about giving him a look, so he knows what he needs to work on for next season. Long term, I think he could be a real gem. Mostly I’m interested in seeing him on the powerplay, where he is supposed to be a wizard.

Panzeri is just where I found it, but i;m sure it was everywhere!

Wiercoch the hitter
I like both Hale and Wiercoch, especially Wiercioch because he brings that missing piece of being a big hitter. I’d rather have either of them playing next year than Kuba. If Murray moves Kuba even for a box of Kleenex, we’ll give him a new contract.
It’s too much to ask for that BM could move Gonchar as well. Then we could REALLY go for a rebuilt defence by signing someone who can really play defence to go with Phillips and be our shutdown pair.
I would love to see Gonchar back
He’s been our best defensive player for the last 3 months in my opinion. Now…if he could only get the points total back next year.
Trying to be Erik Karlsson's agent since October, 2010.
I was under the impression that the knock on Wiercoch was that he wasn't physical enough?

Yeah. 6’4" but only 185lb. Should add some bulk to that frame.

Wiercioch is a big hitter? News to me.
He’s a big guy, but as far as I’ve heard, not a big hitter. Or much of a hitter of any kind.
I guess time will tell… we’ll see him play tonight.

Yeah for real
Maybe I been watching a different player, but Wiercoch isn’t much a hitter.

Are you thinking of Gryba?
I thought Wiercioch was more of a skill guy than a hitter. Maybe he can hit, too?
I agree about Kuba. He is surprisingly unphysical given his size.
