Ottawa Senators Prospects Roundup: Special Birthday Edition
Binghamton Senators (AHL)
25-20-6, 56 Points, 5th East Division162 Goals for, 143 Goals against
Game 50: Norfolk 4, Binghamton 3 (OT) (Feb. 5, 2011, Norfolk Scope)
Binghamton scores two goals in the third period and comes back from a 3-1 deficit to push the game into overtime. But in overtime Patrick Wiercioch takes a hooking call and gives Norfolk the powerplay advantage. Marc-Andre Bergeron scores his second goal of the night to win it for Norfolk.
BSens Hero: Bobby Butler
The Bustler had Binghamton's first goal, his 22 of the season. He said during a intermission interview that he felt like he hit a wall during the last 15 games and believes he's back where was before, and is ready to finish the year strong.
BSens Hero: Kaspars Daugavins
Tied the game in the third, and has really started playing like the guy he's been hoped to be.
BSens Hero: Corey Locke
Mr. Assist was at it tonight, two points off two assists to Butler and Daugavins.
Game 51: Binghamton 3, Norfolk 2 (Feb. 6, 2011, Norfolk Scope)
A great end to a weekend that Binghamton earned three of four points. Both teams were tied at one to begin the third period, and began a see-saw battle for the lead. But the game ended on a high note with Roman Wick scoring the game winning goal with 12 seconds left.
BSens Hero: Barry Brust
Made 32 saves, and two PIMs for high sticking (yes you read that right). He also won his fourth game in a row.
BSens Hero: Derek Smith
Kept Binghamton in the game with two goals on three shots. His first goal was the only powerplay goal of the game.

Happy Birthday Alex! Nice cake too!
I trust there will be plenty of girls on South Beach in nothing but hockey jerseys for your party. Because as you know, girls in nothing but a hockey jersey is pretty hot.
Trying to be Erik Karlsson's agent since October, 2010.

Draftees
Looking at RNH’s stats – decidedly heavy on assists – is that the kind of guy we would want? We need finishers not more set-up guys.
Based on what I see above, put me in squarely in the Landeskog camp. I’ve heard it said he’s the most NHL ready and we need point-getters in that category right now, imo, more than development projects.
Actually Nugent-Hopkins is the most NHL ready
That and he can play both centre and wing.

A website — I think it was Oilers Nation — posted an interesting feature on RNH that showed that a disproportionate amount of his points come on the PP, and that he’s the weakest of the draft forwards at 5 on 5.
Crooklyn, I’d read that Landeskog was the most NHL ready as well, but that his top ceiling might be lower. I think he’d be more NHL ready than RNH based simply on size.
Silver Seven: the Daniel Alfredsson of Ottawa Senators blogs.
That’s really interesting
Landeskog might to be better now, but I believe RNH has the highest ceiling of all the players in the draft. But either player would do.

Nugent-Hopkins is the least NHL ready
It’s been said by Bob McKenzie and other various sources that of the Top 4 (Larsson, Landeskog, Couturier, and Nugent-Hopkins) that Larson, Landeskog, and Couturier are all NHL-ready (both their bodies and skill-set) but ideally RNH would be best suited playing another year of junior and playing in the WJ’s. Larsson, Landeskog, and specifically Couturier are all physically dominant players, while Nugent-Hopkins has yet to fill out, and relies heavily on his keen hockey awareness. Couturier dominates down low with his size, and is next to impossible to handle in the offensive zone, specifically when he’s using his 6’4’’ frame to protect the puck. Landeskog, meanwhile, may not be the physical speciment that Couturier is, but plays with a high intensity level, and is a complete two-way player that isn’t afraid to do the dirty work to win games.
Yeah his size is going to take a while to develop
But I don’t think the CHL would be right for him, he’s already dominating the league, and another year there will just be more of the same. If only he could play in the ECHL or AHL, that would be ideal for his development.

For a skill guy like him, it might also be nice to have the option of sending him somewhere like the Swedish Elite League. I imagine that has never even been tried, but for certain players I think that would be an ideal step in their development.
He's CHL property
Until next year, which will be his fourth season in the CHL.

Any guy who puts up big points in a defenceman dominated league like the WHL will not have too many problems adjusting to the NHL. Couturier looks so dominate, because he plays against a bunch of wussies. Same goes for Larsson. And in response to the mostly assists comment. You should check out some of his highlights. He has a few ridiculous moves up his sleeve.
