Around SBN: Yu Darvish Diagnosed With Mariners Fever

Ottawa Senators prospect roundup: February 2, 2011

Colin Greening played his first NHL game on Tuesday night.

Game 47: Adirondack 4, Binghamton 3 (Jan. 26, 2011, Glens Falls Civic Center)
Tough loss for Binghamton, but the main story was Robin Lehner. After the first period, Lehner was pulled from the game and replaced by Mike Brodeur. He didn't appear to have an injury, but his performance was a bit shaky on the ice. Binghamton scored a one goal in all third periods but it wasn't enough to beat the Phantoms.

BSens Hero: David Dziurzynski
Scored Ottawa's lone goal in the second, and has really been coming alive in the new calender year. I've already talked about his skills on the faceoff, and how high he is on the coaching staff radar, but he's one player to watch out for next season (and another free agent signing by Bryan Murray).

BSens Hero: Patrick Wiercioch
Remember him, guys? Wiercioch scored his second goal of the season for Binghamton and went plus-two tonight. Knock on wood: Hopefully a sign of good things to come.

Lehner Watch (13 Sv, 2 GA)
Lehner was pulled after the first period, and replaced by Brodeur. With Barry Brust injured, and this was Lehner's time to earn the backup role for Binghamton. He looked shaky out there on the ice, and after being called up repeatedly, you can't really blame him. The good news is, Mike Brodeur only allowed two goals on 21 shots, so he does have a chance to be the starter until Brust comes back.

Star-divide

Game 48: Hershey 3, Binghamton 2 (Jan. 28, 2011 Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena)
Heartbreaking loss tonight, as both teams fought hard in all three periods. Hershey would score a single goal in each period, the game winner a shot through Mike Brodeur's five hole. This game felt like a playoff game and, despite the loss, was a fun game to watch.

BSens Hero: Andre Benoit
Had both assists tonight for Binghamton, has really been under the radar for most of the season. The former Canadiens prospect has brought his offensive skills to Binghamton, and has done well working with Craig Schira.

BSens Killer: Braden Holtby
One of the many Washington Capital goalie prospects, Braden Holtby made 21 saves and was a thorn in Binghamton's side for the whole third period.

************

Game 49: Binghamton 2, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 1 (Jan. 29, 2011 Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena)
Binghamton goes into the break with a win, and Robin Lehner has one of his finest games in the AHL. Even though Binghamton failed to record more than nine shots on goal in any of the periods, the offense was able to score enough goals to beat the AHL's best team.

BSens Heroes: Bobby Butler and Erik Condra
The two goal scorers for Binghamton tonight, and looked fantastic on the ice (as well in the awesome jerseys) and together had a total of seven shots on net, +2 and 2 PIMs (all Condra's).

Lassard Watch
Got into a fight for the first time since the 14th of this month (first time at a home game since December 18th). Francis Lessard looks to have won the fight, and had a bloody lip.

Lehner Watch
Lehner faced 44 shots, made 43 saves and allowed only one goal. And for the first time in a while, got some non-sarcastic cheers from a crowd that doesn't seem to like him most of the time.

Binghamton has 53 points and is still in playoffs thanks to the division crossover rules.

Game 42: Wheeling 2, Elmira 0 (Jan. 28, 2011, First Arena)
Despite many chances, Elmira just couldn't get a goal on the board. A sellout crowd in Elmira was treated to a defensive and goalie showdown. Both goaltenders made 28 saves, but it would be Wheeling that walked away with the win.

Game 43: Reading 6, Elmira 5 (Jan. 22, 2011, First Arena)
Elmira was down 6-2 going into the third, and attempted a comeback by scoring three unanswered goals in the third, but fail to tie the game earn some much needed points.

I hope Kasper gets called up

I hear he’s playing much better as of late.

Greening

Speaking of call-ups, how long you think Colin Greening will stay up in the bigs? He played pretty well last night in his debut. Everyone here in St. John’s was tuned in last night, pretty awesome stuff. I hope the Sens keep him up for a bit.

I don't think he'll stay up for too long, to be honest

He didn’t play poorly or anything, but he’s a pretty useful player in Binghamton, and they’re gearing up for a playoff run. Once the Senators’ injured are back, Greening will head back to the AHL.

Speaking of St. John’s, do people in the city not have accents as heavy? Because Newfoundlander accents are awesome, but Greening didn’t seem to have one.

the're a pretty adaptable bunch

Newfies tend to hide their accents well when off the Rock.Get them angry though and the accent comes out. But yeah you’re right the accent is awesome!

by paulbeam on Feb 2, 2011 10:54 AM EST up reply actions

yeah, the accent runs mostly outside St. John’s and Corner Brook, but there are defiantly people in the city who have it. Greening’s is probably out of use from being out of the province for a long period of time!

52

What’s the chances of Greening wearing number 52 next year? I want to get a Sens Greening jersey, but i’m not sure if I should wait till next year or not

I'd say wait

Either get a Binghamton Senators jersey with his name, or wait—52 was assigned to him in training camp, so there’s a good chance he’ll choose a different one if and when he gets a full-time gig in the NHL.

His number is 15 in Binghamton

Which is taken by Joana’s boyfriend, and his number at Cornell is 15 too.

Great videos, Crooklyn

I like Culek stepping up after that dirty post-goal hit; he’s obviously not a fighter, but good for him, anyway.

Binghamton fans don't like Lehner?

Yeah well Lehner finds Binghamton boring!

Trying to be Erik Karlsson's agent since October, 2010.

He doesn't actually

Lehner has made it clear he’d rather be a backup in Ottawa than be returned to Binghamton.

"It’s hard down there, when you go down," he said. "I didn’t really have much to do … you just kind of sit around. It’s pretty hard."

I don't see it?

It’s boring because…he doesn’t have anything to do?

Ottawa fans mostly

They insist he starts most of the game, and he had a rough start to the season. That and he’s not Barry Brust.

Boring town indeed

The town’s dead as a result of de-industrialisation. The rink atmosphere is a blast from the past though. You can really get close to the players. Saw a game during the lockout when the team had Spezza,Emery,Neil,Kelly,Volchenlov,Mcgrattan,Schubert. The game had a grand total of seven fights. Fun times!
