Kinda sad about not having Fisher anymore.. But we got a good deal. I will be cheering for then so we can get that conditional pick!

Yeah sad to see him go, but we get a 1st rounder plus $4 million in cap space
I kind of hope they collapse though so we can get a better 1st round pick. :D
Trying to be Erik Karlsson's agent since October, 2010.
Yeah it's true. I didn't think of the first round pick.
I don’t know how much they can collapse to better the 1st pick though.

Fire Murray right now.
At first glance, I can’t believe the awful return on this deal. I guarantee someone other than Nashville would’ve given us more than a 20th-22nd overall pick in the weakest draft of the last 10 years.
Fisher mentioned countless times when people brought up Nashville that he wants to stay in Ottawa and that he loves it here. And if Nashville loses in the first round of the playoffs, do we lose the conditional pick?
Not happy with it really, but only time will tell with this one. Fisher is a lifetime Senator and a locker room hero. Who exactly is gonna be our 2nd line center now?
Certainly looks like more big moves coming up.
I was disappointed too because he remains as one if my faves.
I have his name on my jersey and everything.
The return isn’t very good which is why I’m gonna cheer for them to do well. According to the TSN article LA were interested in him too. I wonder what they would have offered.
I’m expecting more moves to come. There better be.

Chris Kelly is now our second liner, or Peter Regin.

I don't mind it too much to be honest
I would have liked to have kept Fisher, but we got a 1st round pick out of it and now have $20 million of cap room.
We could always now package Nashville’s pick with Phillips to Boston for their pick. Or something along those lines.
Trying to be Erik Karlsson's agent since October, 2010.
Yeah the more I think about it, the more I like it.
I was harsh to rush to the fire Murray subject line. It’s really not that bad of a move for a guy who has 24 points and is -19.
Sort of a typical initial reaction, I think
We’re all still getting used to this ‘rebuild’ thing. There are going to be popular players traded, but the idea is that our core wasn’t working before, so let’s make some significant changes.
Looking beyond the off-ice stuff Fisher did, this is a fair trade. In fact, it may favour the Senators.

I really don’t get the hate on this trade. Nashville is by no means assured of a playoff spot that this point. As it stands that would be a 20th overall pick today. There are quite a few good teams on the outside looking in right now in the West, so I wouldn’t say Nashville has it cinched yet.
I think Murray needs to give the incoming GM enough picks to possibly make a deal and grab a second top 5 pick. Having that second first rounder is definitely a good start. I think you go hard after Boston for Toronto’s first pick. If they can nab 2 NHL ready forwards out of this draft that would be a dream.
I agree
I don’t mind this trade. I love Mike Fisher’s heart, but I think that is overshadowing both his stats and his cap hit; $4.2 million is too high for a 3rd line center that is often hurt or playing hurt (not his fault, he plays that way.) And isn’t the return consistent with what was expected (the post a few days ago…)

That’s the reality of this. If he was signed for $3.25 for a player like Fish then I would have expected a bigger return, but the fact his contract might be a bit rich changes the prospect of overpaying for him.

Also, Kudos to Bryan Murray
For doing the classy thing and sending him to Nashville, which (outside of Ottawa), I’m sure is Mike’s desired destination. He deserves it for the hardwork and loyalty that he exhibited to the city of Ottawa
Agree with the kudos to Murray bit
He seems to do his best to do right by his players. Even Heatley, for that matter.
My sentiments exactly.

me too!
cap space, cap space – who gives a crap if that’s all you have!! There has to be somebody left behind who isn’t Gonchar cause nobody wants him!
We better sign a top flight center now (Richards?) with all that cap space.
Richards!!!!!!111!!!!1

Guys...
We already had 15 mil coming off the cap! What good is ‘cap space’ if there is no one to spend it on!? Fisher is a playoff hero, and the kind of guy you WANT on your team.
Everyone is sad about losing Fish,
But we werent going to get younger and rebuild by keeping everyone of any value. Lets face it, this group of guys has us almost in last place in the league…..major changes had to be made, and as great as Fisher’s heart was, he was overpaid for what he brought to the table. Sure it would have been nice to get more in return, but the reality is that in order to rebuild, we are going to have to break some hearts along the way.
Dont Understand the Anger
Really whos suprised, a first rounder and a prospect was probably the best we could of hoped for for Fisher. We know Murrays; not done and until June I will not judge this trade. Not happy, but the anger of thir trade is kinda funny.
My anger is more due to my attachment to him as one of my favorite players.

Good trade
Sad to see him go, but a first and a conditional is slightly above Fisher’s worth imo. Good to see that the management is committed to a rebuild, too.
Does this return seem right?
a late round pick for a pretty well established and well rounded player.
Hate to think what this means for some of our other dogs.
In the west, there's no guarantee it'll be a lateround pick
But the value seems right to me. For a guy with a fair amount of salary still to be payed, and injury troubles in the past, whose scoring has been inconsistent, a first is fine.
Besides, these last couple of years it’s been notoriously difficult to get a first at the deadline, so Murray’s done good.

Salary bagage is a fair point
but Fisher is blue-chip. Anyway, i would like to see some players being added somewhere in here. I’ve not a lot of interest in watching an AHL team for the next few years.
I guess Spezz and EK are really going to be carrying this team for a while to come.
Pretty good return in my opinion
A first rounder + for a solid, expensive third line centre.
And don’t ask me why, because I’m probably wrong, but my gut is really telling me that Murray is going after T.O.‘s 1st rounder. Maybe we’ll now see Phillips and Nashville’s 1st to Boston.
If Ottawa ended up with Toronto's 1st
And drafted two, solid, blue-chip prospects, it would be oh so sweet.

I would love to see that happen, but I would be surprised to see Boston give up Toronto’s pick unless the Leafs start moving up the standings.
Boston is definitely in a “win-now” mentality, so I could easily see them dishing that pick for something good. As us Sens fans know, the window only stays open so long, so my guess is that’s what happens.
Now I’ll throw this conspiracy theory out there. Chiarelli trades the pick to Ottawa, then at the end of the season leaves Boston to come back home to Ottawa to succeed Murray as GM.

Spezza for the 'A'
I assume this is the consensus?
Should be the next captain.
Trying to be Erik Karlsson's agent since October, 2010.
I love how Spezza
has been playing since he came back…..he is trying to do a little too much on his own but its great to see that burning passion….I have high hopes for him for the future
