Do I ever have a story for you....
I call it: The creepy way I met some of the Ottawa Senators or The greatest Moment of my Life Thus Far (you can choose which one you like better and I will post my picture in the fanshots section after I am done).
OK. So. I was at the Senators game with my girlfriend (wearing our sens jersey, of course... to which we got yelled at throughout the game... and there was a chant going on for about the last two minutes in my section saying I should take off my hat). After the game I drove her home. We were driving up the road which goes to the airport and we happen to see two tour buses going up the same road. So my girlfriend and I start joking about how it might be the Senators, and how crazy that would be. So after a while of this my girlfriend says: "why don't we follow them to the airport and see"... so we did! (Creepy I know... but it turns out well!).
So we get to the airport and have the car in the loading zone a fair ways away from the tour buses and it is impossible to make out any faces from the crowd so I go in for a closer look. Sure enough I see Cowen! and Rundblad! and Maclean! and I realize that this is them! So I ask if they can hold on for a minute and if I can get some pictures and I am told that they are in a hurry and won't be able to (I believe it is the person in the back left of the picture I'm going to post but I'm not sure... no idea who he is but Cowen and Runblad were listening to him and walked away when he said they had no time).
So I accept this (for now) and I figure I can say "good game" to some of the players as they pass by (I remember Winchester, Karlsson, and Konopka who was the only one who replied as opposed to just smiling). Then I see Alfie! I've been a fan of his for as long as I can remember and my instincts took over. I ran as fast as I could to the car to get my girlfriend and her camera (leaving the car in jeopardy of a towing...). So we both run into the terminal and manage to find Alfredsson in line to get checked in. So I run up to him and told him I was a fan of his and a huge Sens fan (and this was all too much... I'm pretty sure I said "holy shit" at least 8 times during the minute or so this was happening).
Some of the other guys on the team were there and they were laughing at how excited I was. I specifically remember Spezza, Winchester, and Anderson who were close by. There was even a comment about how I even had a Sens jersey on (my Alfredsson one, of course). Looking back I wish I had: a. introduced myself (in all my excitement I appear to have left my manners elsewhere) and b. at least asked if there were any markers about and if he would sign my jersey (because that is basically the only thing that could have made my night any better). I intend to carry a sharpie with me at all times now. But hindsight is a bitch I guess...
Anyways, I managed a few overly excited words with Alfie and he shook my hand and let me take a picture with him! He was a really nice guy (not that I expected otherwise) and I hope he realizes that he pretty much made the greatest moment of my life!
Well, I hope some of you found this to be funny... not only creepy on my part! I would post a picture in this but I do not know how. So, as said earlier, you will find it in the fan shots section shorty. And I apologize for writing a book here...

Hahaha, that was Awkward!!
I could see myself totally doing that!!! Great way to cap off an unusual ’Peg night!!!!!
Haha, that's hilarious.
Your girlfriend sounds awesome, by the way. I’m pretty sure mine would have said “it’s probably not them, and it’s getting late. Let’s just go home.”
I can only imagine the Senators’ reaction to all of this. It must have been pretty surreal to see someone in Winnipeg in such a frenzy over meeting them (even though I’m sure they get things somewhat like this pretty frequently).

I'm on my iPad so I accidentally hit flag instead of reply...my bad
I’m sure they were especially surprised after the ferocious booing they were getting at the game! But I was happily impressed with all the sense jerseys I saw!

This is awesome!
and it doesnt surprise me at all that Konopka was one of the only ones to respond, seems like a real good guy
I was there about twenty minutes later.
I had to take the Greyhound to Brandon after the game last night, and the depot is at the airport. I had some time to kill, and was reading my riveting accounting textbook when I had the idea that the team may be filtering through the airport. I called my girlfriend and asked where their next game was, and further asked her to check FlightAware to see if there were any corresponding flights that night. Sure enough, there was, so I ran to the terminal in time to see them all lined up at US Customs.
Being a coward, I made no effort to go talk to anyone, however I was pleased to just be able to see.
I'll be honest.
I was walking up to alfredsson and I held back a bit then my girlfriend shoved me closer. I knew I was going to talk to him but I guess I was a tad nervous.

I would've totally chickened out.
And then my girlfriend would’ve dragged me over to them and forced me to talk to them.
This is also known as “how I ended up talking to K’naan at Elgin Street Diner”. My girlfriend is awesome.

Mmmmm, accounting textbooks!
accrual vs cash basis. By the way, some of the most interesting people are accountants you know. Okay, not really.

Awesome
But the greatest moment of your life…?
I know that, that doesn't matter, I know you Mr. Rainey, that's what matters. You stole my story.
Just saw your pic with Alfie.....
if I were him, I would be honoured to have my pic taken with you in your Alfie jersey. Great picture.
I intend to go to the airport after the next sens game here too! Maybe I will talk to some players and not be ridiculously excited… doubt it.
