Senators recall Nikita Filatov and send Stéphane Da Costa to Binghamton
WIth the Senators carrying no extra forwards, presumably Filatov will play today against Carolina, his fourth game in four nights.

Da Costa is such a ninja, he's vanished and left Filatov in his place.

Writing was on the wall last week for this demotion….what will be interesting is how hungry Filatov will be to EARN top 6 mins because it is highly likely he won’t supplant Winchester off the bat on the 2nd line and will have to show he is prepared to play hard mins on the 4th in order to get an opportunity to get more mins..hopefully he is learning some lessons on what it takes to EARN an NHL job and not think he DESERVES one.
The fact that Winchester is slated to play on our second line should make it certain beyond a shadow of a doubt that Filatov is in the top 6 tonight. C’mon, Winchester? Really? A guy with 10 career goals in 200 NHL games? I don’t care how good he is anywhere else on the ice, those aren’t numbers that deserve top 6 minutes ever. Period.
I'm stoked
Another exciting reason to watch the rebuild, IMO. More interesting is to see what Da Costa will do in the A. I suspect it’ll take a week or 2 but after he settles in, the points will come.

Definitely going to be tough for him to impress
Hopefully he can run on a bit of adrenalin, or something. I guess we’ll see.

I’m pretty sure that after a few years of being kicked around the minors and on 4th lines in the NHL theres not much more Filatov can learn about not taking things for granted. Its just a question of whether he can find a stable position on the team and whether he is capable of the fulfilling role Paul Maclean asks of him.
In actual fact the question is does he want it bad enough? If he doesn’t realize this year could be his last opportunity before a move back to Siberia…he likely will never get it and not likely the player you would want in your organization.
...
I saw all his games in Bingo from Hamilton game and I must say his play is changed what I saw him in our team (Columbus). He played hard, and not only he was great in offense and good in defense but he played hard in the next of mantinel and try to fight a puck. Plus he showed his character when he returned after Sestito hit and after Bortuzzo boarding. :) IMO any problems wit this only he will be probably tired but maybe recall give him energy.
Hmmm...
but he will be tired… it is bad for him now. Plus boarded … interesting after Sestito hit he was called up, after Bortuzzo boarding again… called up :D
Good luck to him. Here's hoping for a multi-point night for him!
Da Costa just wasn’t confident anymore – and the AHL will be good for him to regain that. Filatov likely bought into the system and has corrected deficiencies, so now he’s back with the club and ready to go.
I don’t think he’ll do too much today. 4th game in 4 nights will be tough.
But hope I am wrong, adrenaline might carry him!

Hopefully he can prove himself during this stretch

Da Costa
I just hope that hanging onto Da Costa at this level this long doesn’t have too many consequences. The kid is still really young, and it is normal to need some development.
The second line center thing will be resolved by next year and all we need is patience and it will all sort itself out.
I just hope we don’t do something stupid like give up on some of our prospects to go after somebody else’s problem child who isn’t producing where he is now.
Now Filly will get his turn, and we’ll see how that goes.
IMO, the only expendable forward in our organization right now is Jacob Culek. A rebuild needs some patience.
At the trade deadline, we may want to cash in some aging veterans for draft picks to help in the rebuild. I say just let the prospects sort themselves out. We have some REALLY good ones… and Da Costa is among them.
