Will Alfie get traded??
Daniel Alfredsson: Lets face it. Our beloved captain doesn’t have much longer in the league... The way he plays the game I don’t know how he isn’t hurt more often! Alfie is off to a decent start this year i most categories.. His minutes are down from his usual 20+ but I think it’s for his own good. Alfie insists he doesn’t want to be traded but... Let’s think about that... he may possibly be our most valuable trading asset at the deadline... So should we? Should we not?
Let’s think about it...
So lets say we trade alfie to a contending team... like maybe Washington? See when Washington dealt Varlamov to Colorado for some reason Colorado felt like they should screw up there whole development and trade away 2 first round picks so maybe get one of them back from Washington? That could possibly be a top 10 pick.. and in this years draft may end up being a very good nhl player if we get the right guy..
sooooo back to what i was saying.. Alfi is probably out most tradable player because he wont be a guy who goes into another team and messes up the chemistry, he’s a great leader, and he always plays hard.
I would hate to see him leave Ottawa... I really would... He’s been the heart and soul of this team forever. But that being said.. it may be the best thing for this franchise and we cant forget... it is a business...

This is a thoroughly misleading title
for a topic that’s been discussed ad nauseum.
I think we can all agree as a fan base over the course of the last year that the major consensus is “prefer not to trade him, have him retire as a Senator, but if he chooses to go, he’s earned it.”
Space for rent.
I updated the headline
Too scary.
As for the trade, it won’t happen. Alfredsson won’t want to leave town, the team won’t want him to, fans are dreading the possibility.
Go ahead and write it, I guarantee Alfredsson won’t be traded.

Yeah this is more accurate and less panic-inducing.
I also think it’s pointless talking about it while he’s out with a concussion. With all the Crosby drama going on, no GM is going to trade for a player who’s concussed.
Oh Captain, my Captain!
Wow!
Put that on newspaper headlines if you want to play a prank on the city!
Does this mean he will indeed not be traded this year, but next year in the final year, the one for all the marbles, he will be traded?
Likely after Bryan Murray, having traded so well all year, lets Alfie go for a conditional 7th?

With his NMC, no way Alfie gets traded for a conditional 7th
Knowing Alfie, I’m betting he considers the return for the team before deciding whether to let himself be traded.
Also knowing Alfie, he doesn’t ask to be traded so we don’t seriously entertain any offers and he retires a Senator before taking up a front office position.
Oh Captain, my Captain!
Err...
That was just referring to him Peter guaranteeing he’s not traded (Alfie guarantee after we lost game 5 to go down 3-2). We did come back and win game 6 (not traded this year), but lost game 7 (traded next year) after Lalime’s horror show in game 7 despite being good for most of the series (Murray having traded well all year but then trading him for a conditional 7th).
Maybe I was too subtle. ;)

We aren't the Leafs.
We’re not going to put pressure on our captain/heart and sole to ask for a trade just because he’ll retire soon and we want to squeeze every last drop of milk out of him before he goes. If he wants to stay here, we want him here, even if he’s retiring. We owe him that much.
*soul
I usually don’t bother correcting typos etc on here (except Adnan’s grammar or math), but Alfie is not the bottom of a shoe.
Oh Captain, my Captain!
Actually not always
For instance, this time I was not picking on you. But now I suppose I am. Maybe you should be more precise in your wording!
Oh Captain, my Captain!
Zing!
Would hate to be the sucker on the receiving end of that.
Hey, wait a minute… :/

You know it's only people who love you
that hurt you the most. I never bother hurting you.

I think most of these comments are very selfish
Alfie will never ask to be traded. I don’t think it’s a secret he really wants to win a stanley cup to help solidify a HOF career. I think this orginization owes it to Daniel. Trade him to a team that has a good chance of winning a cup. We don’t get to think about what WE get out of it. If Detroit had a good chance of winning the Stanley Cup and offered a bag of pucks, we OWE it to Daniel…make the trade.
I think it’s up to managment to recognize what this man has done for the organization and this city. Don’t make him request it. Don’t make him taint his legend status. Send him on his way to the promise land.
Once he wins the prize, bring him back to run this thing.
Go luck yourself.
I get your sentiment on this
Winning a cup is great but playing for one team only in this day in age is an incredible achievement as well and one I am sure holds dear to Alfie as much as all the fans who love him.
The Matt Sundin saga needs not be repeated here.

Agreed
I don’t think a Stanley Cup would mean even close to as much if he won it somewhere else. He’s been here so long and done so much for this team… he might just want to finish his career here, having played every game as an Ottawa Senator.
I don't see how they're selfish
What if Alfie actually DOESN’T want to be traded? He has a life and young family in Ottawa.
The only thing the team and its fans “owe” Alfie is to respect his wishes.

I wondered this myself.
Does Alfie want to move? His kids are in school. He loves the city – he’s been seen chilling outside the Centrum Starbucks with his family like a “regular person.” Moving for a year and uprooting the family might not be something he’d be interested in doing.
I doubt he'd really want to, although it might not be too big of a deal if he's just moving Feb-June.
But players don’t like to be traded and I’m sure Alfie has some really close ties on this team, especially to guys like Philly who he’s played with forever.
Oh Captain, my Captain!
I agree.
Rather than taking it upon ourselves to trade him, how about we leave it up to Alfie. And I think it’s pretty much unanimous among Sens fans that, if he ever does ask for a trade, we could never say no. No matter how much it hurts.
