Nikita Filatov Assigned to Binghamton
In an interesting move, the Ottawa Senators have assigned winger Nikita Filatov to Binghamton of the AHL. Guess it is better than him sitting in the press box, but it will be interesting to see how he responds.

i think this is more just a 1-2 week thing.
Filatov has a 2-way contract if i’m not mistaken, so he could be sent down without having to clear waivers (unlike Condra, Greening, Butler). I think either:
a) someone gets traded or
b) z-bad is sent back to the SEL
and when that happens, Filatov has a spot again. it’s better than having him sit in the press box. I just hope that he handles it alright and realizes that this isn’t the Columbus situation.
This sounds reasonable
Hopefully Filatov thinks that too.
An Ottawa Senators supporter in Toronto, Ontario. I am cool like that.
I'm quite amazed
Here’s someone who was told they were going to be given a good chance, and started the season on Spezza’s wing. Two games in and he’s sent down?
I like the idea of Nikita getting some top line minutes in the AHL rather than sitting in the press box, my only concern is how he’ll take the news.

this is going to be a HUGE test of his character
and really dictates his future in the NHL.
I think MacLean is good at explaining these things
Hopefully he’d underline that it’s intended as a temporary thing, and assure Filatov that he’s at the top of the recall list when Ottawa needs someone to come up.

He better be an explaining genius.
This really runs counter to all the communications around Filatov when they traded for him. He looked good in the pre-season and nothing near terrible in his two games. To see him sent down — even if it’s good for his playing time, short term, etc. — doesn’t line up with getting a good shot in the top 6.
Zibanejad is getting a good shot. Da Costa is getting a good shot. Greening is getting a good shot.
Filatov has not really gotten a good shot, IMO, and the other logical and reasonable factors (playing time, short term) have to be weighed against the damage of seeming to repeat his Colombus experience when he was told that would not be the case. Has he been that bad in practice?

I agree, probably a temporary thing.. but
When he was brought in, it was supposed to be a new beginning, and I was under the impression that he was to be allowed to work through whatever he needs to to be a top 6 forward in the NHL based on his skill potential.
I fail to see how this is in the best interest of the long term potential of this player, when we could have just rotated Z-bad and Greening in and out of the lineup as I see them as the same type of player.
I just hope he takes it well, his character and motivation have been unlike anything that I was expecting from his reputation in columbus, and was very pleasantly surprised to see how hard he backchecked in the few games he was given an audition.
Yeah
I personally thought Nikita looked good in his two games up. Fail to see how this was warranted, but I trust the stache.

WHAAAA?
I’ll trust the team’s judgment on this one, and I hope it is meant to be a temporary get-your-confidence-back thing, but I am surprised.
