Robin Lehner tears a strip off the referees over a controversial waived-off icing call.

I can’t say I saw the game, but from what I read it sounds like total BS. I think it’s definitely a pretty fair beef to have it you see a ref signal icing to then assume the play will soon be dead. I know I saw at least once in Canada’s games the refs call icing even with the dumping team having a step at the line and it still getting called. Can’t pick and choose when things are no touch.

Yeah I saw that too

While I don’t watch a lot of this tournament, that did seem ridiculous, Lehner had a great point.

On a mostly unrelated note, his comment about Canada reminds me, I think things do favour Canada administratively anyway.

I mean why did Russia have to play the early quarterfinal on Sunday night, and then the early semifinal on Monday afternoon? While Canada plays early on Sunday, and then late on Monday? It just seems totally unfair. Even if the timings were preset, based on group seedings, it just seems like a ridiculous setup. At worst it was blatant favouring Canada and/or ratings, and at best it is just incompetent administration.

Good on Russia for coming through anyway though, especially the come back against Finland.

Canada probably got the late game because they played the host team, which traditionally gets the primetime slots.

Cannot play with 'em, cannot win with 'em, cannot coach with 'em. Cant do it.

…which more often than not go to Canada, because Canada hosts the tournament more than anyone else. These days, at least. And Canada’s hosting the tournament every second year (I think) between now and 2019 or something like that.

Seconded

especially considering how much myself and the fam were bitching about that call. Nice to know Lehner agrees!

I've always wondered.

Is it waived off? Or waved off?

I always thought it was waved, as the ref waves his arms to call off a previous call, but now I’m not so sure

It's waive

waive (wv)
tr.v. waived, waiv·ing, waives
1. To give up (a claim or right) voluntarily; relinquish. See Synonyms at relinquish.
2. To refrain from insisting on or enforcing (a rule or penalty, for example); dispense with: “The original ban on private trading had long since been waived” (William L. Schurz).

Either of those two meanings could work…I would go with #2.

I think it's waved

Which is weird, because I wrote ‘waived’ in the blurb. But since the ref literally waves to call it off, I think that’s the spelling.

Hey Peter

I joined this site as a member, so I feel that it is my right to say that the layout sucks, the content sucks and I would do everything differently, so if you don’t change the entire way of doing things, then this complaint will have fallen on deaf ears.

Dick move or constructive criticism?

Obviously a dick move, but until one of your readers points this out, you should probably assume that this is how the entire membership feels.

Amirite?

If this is in reponse to my post on the fantasy league...

I apologise. I was just offering suggestions for what I thought would be an improvement. The categories are just way too numerous and too redundant in my opinion.

I don’t think you need to take the criticism about the fantasy pool so personally, dude. It’s not like people are attacking you or your family, they’re just stating their thoughts on the format.

Can't believe Lehner didn't start the bronze medal game for Sweden

Might have cost them the game; some of the goals allowed by his counterpart were pretty weak.
