So far it looks like Wiercoch and Gryba are both ahead of Cowen on the depth chart. Wiercoch and Gryba look poised and are moving the puck well, whereas Cowen acts unsure of himself with the puck, and gives it away at a scary frequency. Some dmen take a while, so there is no need to jump to conclusions at this early stage... but so far, he does not look like a top ten first rounder. Another year of Junior and a WJC appearance (if he makes it) looks like what he needs.
