Summer Injury updates?
In the light news period that is the summer I can't say I've heard anything about Michalek or Kovalev's knee issues. Also Kuba had back surgery to end his season, has anyone heard any updates on that. People keep talking about our opening day lineup with Kovy in the fold, so I definitely wonder whether his recovery is going smoothly. Being 37 and recovering from ACL surgery is going to be no small feat.

I haven't heard anything, but I know the "official" recovery time for an ACL tear is about three months
There’s more rehab involved with it after that, so I wouldn’t expect Kovalev or Michalek to have much physical contact in training camp.
But this is just speculation. I haven’t heard anything about any of those players either.

We had optimistic reports about Kovalev earlier in the summer
Granted the source was Kovalev’s agent, but it was still good to hear good news. Haven’t heard anything else, though—nothing about Michalek, either.

Given Kovalev's workout antics
I’m not overly concerned about his recovery. He’s a machine, and should be able to return to form in the anticipated timeframe mentioned. PS, I expect his production to increase to 20+ goals and 60+ points next season with 55 on the PPl
Milan, however, is a guy who has had more knee damage in his lifetime than a bloody pirate hooker. I’m concerned, especially given his tender age. His play last season was indicative of a man with wonky knees (perpetually charging straight up the outside with the puck and taking bad angle shots, as opposed to cutting in and out and finding open lanes), and although it translated to early season success, teams adapted and his production dropped significantly for the final two thirds of the season. If his knees aren’t worse off than they were last year, I half expect him to top out at second line point production.. and if they are, well, that would suck because he’s still under contract for another year.
And Kuba. The poor guy seems to be hampered with serious nagging injuries at all times. Unfortunate, really, because he is undoubtedly a skilled dman. If healthy, he could be an impact (in the non-physical way) player for us in terms of minute-eating and PP2 duties.
Michalek said he'll be ready the season

Yeah, I saw an article about that on Canoe last week about him. Given his knee issues I really worry about him. I know Murray got shellacked on the Heatley deal, but given Michalek’s knees the deal just seems to get worse and worse for the Sens. I know there was fuck all he could have done given his position, but I can’t help but wonder why he couldn’t have gotten Ehrhoff in the deal since he was traded for a bag of pucks.
I think it was a salary issue.
Ottawa had to take salary back to make the deal work as it was (Cheechoo) so Murray must have felt that he would have rather taken a forward back on the chance to recoup Heatley’s goal’s.
Alternatively, Murray might have refused to give up prospects for Erhoff. This is a possible scenario given how shallow our farm system was at the time of the trade.
Or, Erhoff was simply not available to the Senators.
Personally, I think it was option number one, which has to count as a major mistake by Murray. Cheechoo was unsalvageable and it’s surprising the scouting staff didn’t realize that.

Something I never really thought of right now is the awkward position Heatley put the Sens in from a scouting perspective. Since he demanded a trade and picked his own destination it probably put the Sens in a weird position. I know the scouts check out all sorts of teams during the course of the year, but you’d have no idea if they would have scouted particular players. Since it was the offseason its not like they could go watch them play a game or anything, so it definitely puts teams in a spot when you’re dealing from such a position of weakness.
