Benjamin Conz.
Most of you have never heard of this guy. I hadn't until today.
He has been described as a peculiar goaltender who plays an unusual style. Small, he likes to play deep in his net.
As has been mentioned in the comments section, because of his age Conz will re-enter the draft next season. he is not yet available as a free agent. But late-round diamonds in the rough who were looked over in previous drafts are the Murray's speciality!
Is he worth taking a chance on for an organization that has had trouble developing good goaltenders? No assets are wasted by picking him up. Maybe ask Roman Wick about him first!

Small is the big knock on him
If you take away the gushing from Pierre Maguire (a very small man himself), who likens the kid to J.S. Giguere, pretty much every scouting report I read had him going undrafted in the new, tiny 7-round format. Some even scoffed that Central Scouting would dare rank him as high as 6th among Euro goalies, but the fact is, only 5 Euro keepers were drafted.
Anyway, just wanted to correct you on a couple of things. First:
“Most of you haveneverheard of this guy”
What, you don’t watch every WJC game like your life depended on it? ;-)
Second, and I’m probably totally wrong about this, but I don’t think undrafted 18-year olds are free agents. I think NHL clubs are forbidden from signing him until he turns 20, meaning he will likely get drafted next year.

Unfortunatly I'm only able to watch so many WJ games.
But I would watch every fame if I could.
But your right…i overlooked him going back into the draft. smacks self in head

Am I right?
‘Cause I can’t find any literature to corroborate the claim right now, but I think that’s what I read once.

Yeah, he should be able to re-enter the draft
Which means it might not be a good idea for the Senators to take a flyer on him, especially if he’s available late.
If I’m not mistaken, the Senators have all draft picks for the 2011 draft. Something worth looking into, for sure.

Just wait until the trade deadline, we don't need 2nd round picks

That's why we made no effort to sign Dominic Moore, the human 2nd-round pick generator

Well played
I bet the Leafs are hoping that their kick at the can (Jesse Blacker) turns out half as good as the original Moore-for-a-second (Tomas Kopecky).
We should get Cassie over at Raw Charge to sponsor a pool to guess who gets Moore’s services at next year’s trade deadline.

I'm not sure she'd sponsor it
Problem is also that Moore has a two-year deal as well. His signing confuses me because the Lightning have a lot of guys who play that 3rd/4th-line, defence and penalty kill specialist role. Nevertheless, he’s probably not getting dealt until 2012.

Two years on the same team?
That’d be a first. His usual m.o. is to spend two teams on the same year.
Look at me, I’m the Canadian Yakov Smirnoff.

*Head shake*
When he signed, I called it a 1.75-year contract and 2012 2nd-round pick.

By that time
Kopecky will have himself a Selke nomination, Blacker will be centering Kessell on the Leafs’ top line, and the Habs will be breaking in their rookie booty.
Domenic Moore, the man who leaves a trail of prospects in his wake, as he races to surpass Sillinger’s legacy in half the time.

Small, and plays deep in his net?
If that is indeed his playing style, I’d be interested to see how he fares against NHL shooters. Not well would be my guess.
Exactly.
I remember him at the WJCs, though. He was great. I believe TSN’s headline for him was “WRATH OF CONZ”

Doesn't Lundqvist play really deep?
Granted, Lundqvist is much bigger and was coached by Robin Lehner’s Dad.
