Chris Campoli files for arbitration
According to ESPN's Pierre LeBrun, restricted free agent defenseman Chris Campoli has filed for arbitration. The Ottawa Senators' blueline is already pretty full, with Chris Phillips, Sergei Gonchar, Filip Kuba, Erik Karlsson, Brian Lee, and Matt Carkner under contract and ready to play this season (not to mention prospect Jared Cowen, who should make a strong push for a spot in September).
Back in May, Peter had a good look at what kind of contract Campoli might be able to seek at arbitration. Be sure to check that out here.

Well Ottawa already gave Lee an extension
So I guess this isn’t a shock.

I hate that deal +1

Hard to blame him
Hopefully he doesn’t get a Letang-like contract and price himself out of the team’s plans. We need him as trade bait for Cullen at this year’s deadline!

I don't understand this
How much is Campoli asking for? I can’t even see an arbitrator awarding him anything higher than $1.3M, at the very, very most. Maybe that’s what he’s looking for, and the Sens are trying to get him for $800k or something?
Whatever, if he’s got arbitration rights, good for him—might as well use them. Still a bit weird.
I’m more concerned with Regin, who has also apparently filed for arbitration.

I didn't think Regin had arbitration rights.
Campoli filing makes sense, and it’s hard to blame him. He can point to Carkner and Lee and say “Hey, I’m worth more than them, right?!” He’s got decent enough numbers to get paid more than 1M, and I doubt Murray was offering that to him.

Regin did file according to TSN
and Puck Daddy
Also, undeniably team MVP. The numbers, man. The numbers.

I wouldn’t say Campoli is better than Carkner and Lee. They all play a different style of hockey. I think Matt Carkner leaves it all on the ice, and lets get real….he can fight, block shots and intimidate….these are all things campoli fails to do. Lee just has the worst luck…he doesnt neccessarily fit in ottawa’s system, but I’m sure another team would love to have him play for them…in other words…trade bait. It’s true tho, campoli does have a right to make more than a 1M a season, but ottawa signing gonchar doesnt leave a whole lot of room for him.
I disagree about Lee
But even if I think he sucks and you don’t, who is going to take him? It’s all well and good to want to get rid of him, but is anyone seriously going to ante up? You might be looking at Lee and a 6th for another team’s 7th.

That'd be Lee and a 7th for another team's 6th
Though that might be too generous.

I think if Lee had any value on the trade market, he’d be traded by now.
And one thing about Carkner: Although he’s a terrific fighter, he became more effective as the season went on and he stopped dropping his gloves so much. This year, without Sutton or Volchenkov, we won’t be able to deal with Carkner sitting in the penalty box for five minutes of a game. He’ll have to keep his gloves on, for the most part.

I don't think the team has developed Lee well
But I also don’t think he has made the best effort to develop with the team. I’ll admit to not watching much of him last year, but he seems to have half the intensity of someone like Karlsson, which speaks volumes to me.

Calm down, Chris. Seriously.
Cannot play with 'em, cannot win with 'em, cannot coach with 'em. Cant do it.
