Elmira Jackals affiliate with Anaheim organization
Didn't see this happening, but the Elmira Jackals are now the ECHL affiliate for the Anaheim Ducks and Syracuse Crunch. Their two-year affiliation with the Ottawa and Binghamton Senators has expired, but apparently they're working to expand it--meaning that the Jackals could have two affiliates, and a stacked team.

With the recent emergence of the Central League
There are now about 37-40 (pending expansion) teams that like to call themselves ‘AA’.
I think the ECHL needs to absorb about eight of those Central franchises, finally change their own league name (Alaska is hardly East Coast), and establish 30 strong affiliations with the AHL teams, to make the new version a true ‘AA’ model. Until they do, we may as well also call the Fat Cats a ‘AA’ baseball team, for all that designation is worth. (Seriously though, the Blue Jays can’t even move their ‘AA’ or ‘High-A’ affiliate to Ottawa? WTF?)
My question is, if Elmira doesn’t expand to three affiliates, or even if they do, where the Hell is Barry Brust supposed to play?

Good questions, all of them
Maybe Brust will end up in the Ottawa men’s leagues?

I dunno why I said three affiliates
Hopefully a time-share with Syracuse will allow each team to stash one goalie in Elmira.
I don’t see why Canada can’t come up with 30 markets the size of Elmira and give the ECHL a run for its money as the premiere ‘AA’ hockey league. Well, 30 markets that don’t already have major junior, that is.
If the Sens had their affiliate in Smiths Falls or Renfrew or Pembroke or something, I’d take a drive out for more than a few games.

I agree the ECHL needs more teams
Elmira is playing in a three team division. How stupid is that?

I think I'd head to Smiths Falls or something for a AA game, too
But I think that a minor pro league in Canada would really challenge the OHL for those small- to mid-sized hockey markets.
