Ottawa Senators re-sign Cody Bass to one-year, two-way deal
Third in a flurry of free agent signings this week, the Ottawa Senators announced the signing of prospect Cody Bass to a one-year, two-way contract. Rumours are that the deal comes with an NHL salary of $500k (h/t to @thejpiga and @TomSENS) .
At just about league minimum, this is about as good as the deal can get for Ottawa. Much of the negotiation between Bass and the organization likely surrounded what he would make in the AHL (rumoured to be $70k). Although he's been penciled into an NHL roster spot for a few seasons now, injuries and his two-way contract have restricted his big-league numbers: It's been a steady decline from 21GP in his rookie season to 12GP in 2008-09, and none last season. If he does get any games in the upcoming season, it'll likely be spot duty on the fourth line, and he'll be in tough against guys like Zack Smith and even Corey Cowick, both of whom have similar toughness but are better offensively.

CapGeek's got the 500k/70k details up, so I'd consider that more or less confirmed.
And $500k IS league minimum now, isn’t it?

I thought it was more myself. here’s a guy that had potential but has fallen off in recent years. It speaks of the depth but he needs to elevate his game if he’s going to see any NHL time.

I'm not sure how much potential he has...
I mean, his AHL numbers are pretty abysmal. I’m wondering if we might have gotten too high on the kid after that pretty good NHL debut.

I like him as a 14th forward
To be dressed versus the Leafs.
Colton Orr usually sees 4 minutes on the ice and 5 in the pokey, but that tends to screw up our defensive pairings when Carkner has to be replaced for 5 minutes every game.

probably true
I thought down the road he might develop into a Chris Neil type, but I wonder if he has Neil’s level of polish(10-15 goal scorer). I guess that is what he is supposed to be acquiring during his time in the AHL.
Oh the failed playoff run of that season we went 15-2 to start the year
Cody Bass and Brian Lee our best players, Mike Commodore tied for team lead in scoring…
That year sucked.

It was such a painful playoff year
More painful than the next season, even though we missed it that year. At least there was hope in 2008-09… after 2008, it was all darkness and misery.
