Well it's been a long journey for our boy Michael. We've watched him grow over the years from a modest, religious, rugged hockey dynamo to a Dolce and Gabana sunglass wearing celebrity. Not to fault him for that, Alfie was rockin' D&G long before now, but People magazine paid 2 million dollars for the exclusive rights to Fisher and Carrie's wedding photos. He had the three American Idol judges there and he's being written and read about all over North America. You think this might get to his head a little?
Looking at other celebrity-dating players, it's tough to see a trend.
But I really only looked at two.
Sean Avery dated Elisha Cuthbert in the 2007-2008 season. Sean put up a better-than-average 33 points in 57 games, and actually got 4 GWGs that season. He got into a ton of scraps, and ended at plus 6, making it his second best season in that respect.
Mike Comrie started dating Hilary Duff when he was here in Ottawa and he hasn't been very good since then; putting up some of the lowest numbers of his career in the last four years.
M. Fish met C. 'Wood at the end of the '08-'09 season. Cue Mr. Boombastic. Fisher started playing the best hockey of his life. This season, he put up a career best 53 points in 79 games played. He re-capured our hearts and proved worthy of his $4.2M cap hit.
But, really, that was before all this People magazine coverage and celebrity wedding planning. The old boy from Peterborough now has TMZ cameras going off in his face. How might this affect Mike's play in '11?
