Are you an expert? Andy Sutton's encounter with Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writer Ray Fittipaldo (ID'd by Sean Leahy) after his hit on Jordan Leopold. The hit was determined clean by the league, and Sutton was assessed no penalty nor discipline.

As I've said elsewhere
Sutton comes off like a fifth-grader in that. Of course, I can totally see why — he’s just lost a big game and was booed throughout it and is worried about a suspension, so he’s rattled. Then, a smarmy Pittsburgh reporter decides to tell him he hit Leopold with his elbow (elbow was tucked in, so it’s not an elbow) and the reporter claims that there’s video evidence. It’s like a bad cop telling the accused that his friend already confessed to the whole thing so they’ve got him. Sutton doesn’t think he hit him with the elbow, but the play happens so fast that he probably doesn’t know, so he tries to sidestep the question and comes up with a great internet meme.

Love it.
You’re right, he comes off a little childish but at this point he probably doesn’t know if it’s clean or not as you said. I loved when they booed him during the game and love his response to this reporter who is insinuating that he elbowed him. If that hit would have been in Ottawa the crowd would have been cheering him so loud. Bring it on Pittsburgh, Ottawa has shown they are not intimidated or afraid of you, and a large part of that goes to Sutton.

I dont see why he wouldnt just shoot back that it was a good hit
He might have doubts about whether he caught Leopold with the elbow, but if there was no intent to injure, and it didn’t look to me like there was, then his conscience is clean and rightly so.
Should have hit him with ‘Are you Colin Campbell? Are you Colin Campbell?’
Cannot play with 'em, cannot win with 'em, cannot coach with 'em. Cant do it.
Somehow I don't think he was on the debate team in high school
It’s obvious he’s pissed off by this guy, and he’s too rattled to simply say, “I didn’t try to hurt him and I didn’t raise my elbow. Next question.” I love how he finally looks at the media guy like, “Save me here, I’m drowning.”
Based on this clip I have to say that I don’t care for this reporter. He reminds me of the Sun guys or Brooks up in New York — openly antagonistic to get a good quote. When did that become considered reporting?

He didn’t want to take the high road. Athletes are competitive people; they won’t usually back down to a challenge, especially not from a reporter like the one who was challenging him here. He called the guy out on it, and they guy didn’t back down, either. So he looked at the media guy (Phil Legault) and basically told him the interview is over.
And yeah, the hostility definitely brought back memories of the Torts/Brooksie moments, and the guy kind of looks like a fusion of Garrioch and Brennan.

Leopold had his head down and Sutton is 6’6, so it was physically impossible for Sutton not to hit him with an elbow. That said, Sutton clearly had his elbow tucked in.

Just quoting "It's in the replay" would've been funny
But creating a user named “an expert” puts it over the top.

The reality of this situation was that Sutton totally did get penalized. Obviously the refs felt he should pay a penance for his hit, given the 2 very borderline calls against him later in the game. Talk about even up bullshit. The fact Crosby got away with a cross check just showed how how the refs play favourites.
A new angle, and a backstory

It seemed at first like that was the start and end of the interview, but Ian Mendes says that there was more to it, and that Sutton wasn’t surly until he was questioned (if you want to call it that) by Fittipaldo.

To be fair, I could see Garrioch or especially Brennan doing the same thing to any of the Penguins

You know it
Brennan The World’s Oldest 2nd Grader probably would’ve taken it even farther

It was a dirty hit by Sutton, But it was on a Penguin, so I don’t care.

Worth noting:
For all the flack we’ve given the Pittsburgh reporter, he did a pretty fair write-up of it after the fact:
Replays of the hit show Sutton’s elbow and/or arm striking Leopold’s head, but his arm was tucked to his body before the blow was struck and it did not appear that he intentionally tried to hurt Leopold.

I looked up the info
it’s a new IP address and a name I don’t recognize. I don’t think it’s a regular.
Might take the award for new user of the year.

I cannot stand reporters. I bet if that sorry excuse for a beat writer were a player who had to suit up against Sutton he wouldn’t have the gall to accuse him to his face of being a dirty hitter. This reminds me a lot of Scott Stevens. Only a handful of coaches or players ever had the nerve to call Stevens out for his hits, but the media never felt the same compunction despite the fact Stevens probably could have squashed each and every one of them like a bug at will.
We need to have jerseys made with Sutton’s number and have EXPERT on it instead
