Bold prediction: Kovy returns if Sens go deep in playoffs
I was just reading on Canoe that Kovy is already back and walking with a fully torn ACL. If the Sens get past the Pens in the first round, I bet he's back and playing in the second round.
I have personally gone through ACL surgery and know how much it sucks. The indicator here is that he's actually walking without crutches. I fully tore my ACL, yet was back to walking normally within 3 days. I got a brace fitted and was actually able to play soccer again before my surgery date 2 months after the injury. Obviously Kovy has the help of a full-time training staff and the best in sports bracing technology, so I figure the Sens will at very least postpone the surgery date until after the playoffs and try to rehab it a bit.

Interesting theory, but I think they would've stated that rather than confirming surgery
Kovalev does have the advantages of being a millionaire with a great training staff, but he’s also getting up there in age.
The Senators have said that he’s out for the playoffs and that he’s having surgery in 2 weeks, and I see no reason to doubt that.

It’s also one of those things where teams do crazy things come playoff times when it comes to disclosing injuries. As I mentioned about Kovy walking already, it just depends on the tear. A friend of my Dad’s had to go in for surgery the same week for his torn ACL as he couldn’t even walk. Weirdly I know lots of people who have had the injury and everyone seems to manage differently. I could very well be crazy, but then again that’s why it’s a bold prediction instead of a safe bet.

We’ve seen crazier returns from injury before. I find I’m amazed how often guys are back playing anymore when it comes to knee injuries.

We have seen some crazy returns, although I think this would be the craziest
Remember how bad Alfie looked on one leg? I don’t believe that Kovy is coming back under any circumstances. Skating and strength are the biggest parts of his game. He’d be utterly useless without them.

I'd love to see it
I won’t discount it, although it seems unlikely based on what we’ve heard. Still, Kovalev is competitive, and maybe the surgery gets delayed so he can play at 70% health or something.
We’ve got to get to the second round first, though.

Looking at the Sun today, this might be possible
The reason Kovalev’s waiting on surgery is because he’s waiting for the swelling in his knee to come down. He’s moving around reasonably well. If the time comes that the swelling is down, but his mobility isn’t overly compromised, I could see him coming back.
I’m certainly not going to expect it, but I think it might be a possibility, like mod says.
