Silver Nuggets: Playoff schedule released, Crosby vs. Phillips & Volchenkov
Hey all! A quick and dirty set of Ottawa Senators headlines coming your way:
- For those of you who missed it, the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs schedule has been released. The Senators' first game is Wednesday at 7:00pm. (NHL)
- The games will be on CBC and called by Bob Cole, Garry Galley, and Elliotte Friedman (Mendes)
- Fanhouse has a nice piece up on the big series matchup: Sidney Crosby vs. Anton Volchenkov and Chris Phillips (Fanhouse)
- The Penguins' website has a nice series preview as well. (Penguins)
- The Senators players -- particularly the rookies -- are energized for the playoffs. In case you're wondering why Matt Carkner has had a shaved head the last few games, he got Erik Karlsson to give him a "playoff cut" once they clinched their spot. (Gazette)
- Our friend Meaghan puts up her Ottawa Senators playoff preview post, which is a good read. (Sens at Land's End)
- We'll be compiling playoff predictions as much as we can, but here it starts: Ray Ferrarro says Penguins in 6. (TSN)
Stay tuned here for lots of playoff coverage. Tomorrow we'll have a guest post from our friend Hooks Orpik of PensBurgh, and Wednesday we'll have our own special playoff roundtable. There will also be plenty of other things in the meantime to look forward to as well.

ugh @ Bob Cole
why have him when he messes up so many times? It’s frustrating! Get him to call the..habs games…oh nm.
Well at least we got one of our guys in the booth in Garry Galley.

at least its not Harry Neal
He’s by far the most leafs favoring – therefore sens biased – announcer on CBC. Bob Cole is a very close second.

I don't think Neale is on CBC anymore
He’s doing Sabres broadcasts now. Still, agreed, Cole/Neale was unbearable.

Bob Cole calling Sens games = its the playoffs.
Yeah he screws up a lot, but I love the classic voice and the catchphrases. Listening to him call games gets me stoked for playoff hockey, every time.
Cannot play with 'em, cannot win with 'em, cannot coach with 'em. Cant do it.
Just throwing this out there,

for picking the Sens to be swept "in embarrassing fashion"?

Huh?
He’s a piece of shit for having an opinion you don’t like?

Pretty much.
Week in and week out, it’s hate on the Senators. Most of his other shit is so unreadable I’m not sure if the bias extends to other teams.
And that article he wrote mocking Canada’s gold medal win? Embarrassing.
I’m not even sure why he’s on Puck Daddy to begin with. The other two guys bring informative, entertaining stuff. He throws shit on a page and hopes for the best. Maybe I’m delusional in hoping there’s some kind of standards on what I would consider to be a premiere blog.

I think he’s on there to bring antagonism and controversy, kind of like a Don Cherry/Mike Milbury. I don’t like Lambert’s opinions and his arrogance (during the Olympics I stopped following him on Twitter and haven’t looked back since), but he’s entitled to his opinion. The Sens could very well be swept, and perhaps even in embarrassing fashion — the Pens did have that 7-2 game earlier this year.
Silver Seven: the Daniel Alfredsson of Ottawa Senators blogs.
The Sens had a 6-2 win, too, though
You’re right, he’s entitled to his own opinion. And given that he was 12-8 in his pre-season predictions, and those he got wrong he got horribly wrong:
The Flyers will set a franchise low in match penalties: Shit no.
Buffalo will miss the playoffs and both Lindy Ruff and Darcy Regier will be fired: Shit no.
Evgeni Malkin will lead the league in points. Sid Crosby will barely crack 90: Shit no.
So let’s not give him too much credit.

That 6-2 victory for the Sens was at the height of our blueline injury plague. I’m not discrediting the victory, cause it was still a dominating win on your part, but I do think an asterisk is warranted at least.
I don’t think it will be either a sweep, nor an embarrassing series loss. Both teams are familiar with one another, both teams have the tools to win, and both teams are experienced enough to realize the playoffs require that “next gear.”

I like it. Bill Guerin’s uppercut is so awesome it wins fights he’s not even in.

And in that 8-2 loss
Alfie was injured in the first period and we had 3 players coming back from injury. I’m not discrediting the victory, cause it was still a dominating win on your part, but I do think an asterisk is warranted at the least.
NOTE: Leclaire let in 6 goals on 24 shots…ouch.
On the plus side...
That photo of Kane smashinating Cooke is awesome.

I agree...
I checked out his blog just for curiosity’s sake and what a crapfest it was.
WHATTA YOU WANT FROM ME?
Wait, wait… that’s Adam Lambert. My bad.

Pens Fan Here
but I hope for a good series rife with drama and if Ottawa emerges triumphant, good for you and good luck throughout the postseason! I’m trying to be a hockey expert, but Don Cherry, I’m not so I’ll try to have insightful comments. I know my NFL and NBA much more than my NHL. Sorry!

Thanks for coming by
However it ends, a good series rife with drama would be a win for both sides’ fans. I’m hoping Ottawa emerges triumphant, but we’ll see how it goes. Enjoy the series!

Glad to see you stopping by!
It should be a good series. I hope, heh.

Thanks for stopping by!
It’s going to be an exciting series, of that I have no doubt.

Interesting note on the Pensblog:
They list Alex Picard as one of our defencemen.
I see this slight as inexcusable, and hope the karmic reaction is swift and harsh.
I just hope the real Penguins scout us as well
