Silver Nuggets: Regin stepping up; CHL playoff recap
What the... it's a Thursday, and there's no Ottawa Senators game tonight? This is very weird. Oh well, here's a collection of mostly or partly Senators-related stories from around the web.
- Cory Clouston expects someone like Peter Regin to step in and fill the void Milan Michalek leaves on the roster. (NHL)
- Yes, Carrie Underwood was in town last night. Yes, she's engaged to Senators centre Mike Fisher, and yes, she wore a Fisher jersey, and yes, she said this was her kinda hometown. (Citizen)
- Some interesting numbers over at Behind The Net show that the highest-paid players are getting salary increases at a declining rate, compared to the NHL's middle class. Boo-hoo. (BtN)
- Eleven teams are apparently poised to change their jerseys for next season, but Ottawa won't be one of them. (Icethetics)
- Spartacat made a list of the league's top ten mascots! Youppi! should have been number one. (THN)
- UPDATE: Heck of a turnaround recently for the Binghamton Senators: They were 0-8-2 from Feb. 17 to March 2, and have gone 9-3-1 since then. (Sharp)
- Somehow, B-Sens enforcer Jeremy Yablonski has three sports hernias, and that's what's kepthim out of the lineup, and will keep him out for the rest of the year. (Sharp)
- With their 5-3 loss to the Plymouth Whalers, Robin Lehner and the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds are down 3-1 in the OHL playoff series. Lehner has allowed 15 goals against in the four games, for a ghastly 4.09 GAA and only slightly less ghastly .884 SP--a huge drop-off from his regular season numbers (2.80GAA, .918SP).
- The Ottawa 67's, on the other hand, are up 3-0 in their series against the Niagara IceDogs, and have a chance to clinch the win tonight. Senators prospect Corey Cowick has no points so far in the playoffs.
- Out in the Western Hockey League, the Spokane Chiefs are up 2-1 in their playoff series against the Portland Winterhawks, but Senators prospect Jared Cowen hasn't done any scoring, either.

Buffalo is changing their jerseys again.
What’s that…14 times in the last 3 years? If I was a Sabres fan, I’d be pissed. Also, the light blue 3rd for the Pens were ugly as @#$%. Glad they’re going.
Galactus does as he pleases. Because Galactus is drunk.

ACTUALLY, advanced metrics show that that wasn't "premature".
I think the people of Buffalo aren’t always the sharpest knives in the drawer, but they are fiercely loyal. I think the Sabres take advantage of these traits.

Buffalo’s current jersey isnt that great. The stag has to go. They should go back to the old logo. It was really bad ass. One of the best in the league IMO.
Except that they aren't named the Buffalo Buffaloes.

The jersey that looks like Donald Trump's hair sucks.
I liked the ones before that and they should have stuck with them. Good colour scheme, good design. The old school jersey is pretty awesome even if they AIN’T the Buffalo Buffaloes.
OHMYGOD THEY SHOULD CALL THEMSELVES THE BUFFALO SOLDIERS!!!!
That’s awesome. I can’t believe I’ve never heard that before. Certainly, I couldn’t have be the first genius to come up with that!

Soldiers would go very well with the old school sabers as a logo
Sadly, I think team name changes are rare without relocation. Still, the less we see of the slug, the better.

I'm pretty sure they ARE going back to the old logo
The thirds this year are a variant of the old old jerseys, and it sounds like the whites will be changed to a variant of that (think the Winter Classic ones).
The Islanders are also going back to where it started, and that’s a good thing, too.

Some dude designed this and submitted it to the team pre-Buffaslug

That would have been a winner hands down, managing to mix old and new quite well.

I dont like the sabres...
If they’re going to go with that one, they might as well just stick with the original sabres.
if I were a Sabres fan, I would be happy with the change
their new main jersey will be their retro, third jersey from this year — which is a sick jersey — a white version for the road and then a new design for the third. I would be happy
I am AWESOME! Are you?
What I meant was that I would be pissed...
…if I bought all new Sabre-Swag…AGAIN…only to have it all change. AGAIN.
Most people in Buffalo, if I’m to believe what I’m told, can’t be shelling out a couple hundred bones every year when the airheads in the front office become buddies with a new graphic designer with an idea for their logo.

Uh oh... is Lehner going to be the goalie version of Joe Thornton?

PLEASE DON'T RAISE THAT POSSIBILITY
We need him to be the franchise saviour. The next Alfredsson.

SpartaCat should be higher up.
Forgive my ignorance, but what in the world is a Youppi?
by AndrewAuCourant on Mar 25, 2010 2:20 PM EDT reply actions
Youppi was the longtime mascot of the Montreal Expos. When the Expos moved to Washington that left Youppi without a job, so he assumed the role of mascot for the Habs instead.

And we forgive him for being a Hab, based on all his good work with the Expos.

I’m still holding out hope they fix the SENS third jersey. Get rid of the wordmark and put the redesigned 2D logo and they’d be in business.
You're almost correct
The original logo is the best logo. They need to stick with it until it becomes classic, like the Blackhawks’.

You are a brilliant, brilliant man, Peter

I think an 'O' would be a badass third jersey
Silver Seven - The Daniel Alfredsson of Ottawa Senators Blogs
Technically the O IS the old school logo
I like the O a lot, but I wouldn’t complain one bit if we went back to the original logo. I’m a major hater of the current logo and jersey design.

By original I of course mean the Parisi.

I want just stripes
No logo. Just barberpole, with sweet old-school shouldercrests.

I knew someone would bring that up (about the technically the O is the old school logo...
ok, the original logo they used in 1992 ie the one Parisi and I love. I don’t hate the current logo but I agree with you about the jersey design. It is horrible. They look like training jerseys.
The entire template sucks
Although I have to say, the Tampa black ones look very sharp in person. I think it’s the silver on the logo contrasting the black.
I’ll take either the O or the Parisi. Both would make me happy in different ways, and they’d both be an improvement on the current design. I’d like to see the old jerseys be used again, too, like how New Jersey didn’t eff up when RBK became the standard. This is a common refrain from fans. But I’ll keep beating this horse that passed away some time ago until I get a change.

"The Parisi"
sounds kind of like a haircut.

lower body injury
Does it really make a difference at this point. I could put a remote controlled car under a pylon and play better.
I'm actually pretty happy with him
I am apparently one of few people who are.
by Peter Raaymakers on Mar 25, 2010 7:54 PM EDT up reply actions
I don't REALLY have a problem with him
I’d just like him to think less and play more… but that’s not his game.
Silver Seven - The Daniel Alfredsson of Ottawa Senators Blogs
I'm stoked on his play
Even if he doesn’t produce offence, he at least hogs the puck for long stretches of time. Which of course is better than the opposition having the puck. So a non-point-producing, say, Ryan Shannon is still a huge drop off than a cold Alex Kovalev. Hopefully this rest recharges the batteries of the clutch Alex Kovalev we’ve gotten to know at times.
