Ottawa Senators Seasons In Review (1995-1996)
This was the last year where the Sens finished in last (don't quote me on that), the year they hired Jacques Martin, and the year Daniel Alfredsson won our hearts. This is the beginning of the the Sens dynasty, or the year before. Either way, Leafs suck.

Before the season began, Brian Smith, sportscaster at Ottawa TV died. He was the primary reporter there, and the Senators honored him with a patch on their jerseys all season long. As well as raise a banner in his memory.
When the season began, Randy Sexton was fired, and replaced by Pierre Gauthier on December 6th. He would make three moves to make the Sens better. He hired Jacques Martin , signed the hold-out Alexei Yashin (Wow...that's just funny. Alexei Yashin signing a contract to avoid a holdout), and got an awesome blockbuster deal to trade Don Beaupre, Martin Straka and Bryan Berard, while acquiring Damian Rhodes and Wade Redden (what? A midseason trade that made the Sens good? Shut up kid!). The trade was a three-way between the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the New York Islanders.
The season, like the ones before, had a few moments of joy (which makes my job easy). Daniel Alfredsson led the team offensively with 61 points (26 goals-35 assists), while Alexei Yashin was out of the lineup for 36 games (being Yashin of course). After starting the year off at 6-5-0, the Sens went on a 8 game losing streak which got it's first coach, Rick Bownes, fired. He was replaced by Prince Edward Island Senators, the Senators AHL affiliate, coach Dave Allison, who also sucked as he won only two games out of the 25 he coached. He was replaced by Jacques Martin (who left Colorado Avalanche to coach the Sens, who won the Cup in 1996). With Martin, the Sens were 10-24-4 in the 38 game he was in charge. But they still finished in last, for the 4th (and final, but don't quote me) year in a row.
The Sens did move in '96. To their new home in The Palladium on January 17, 1996 in a game against the Montreal Canadiens. That ended in a 3-0 loss (Damn Habs!). The pre-game ceremonies were ruined when the raising of the old Senators' Stanley Cup banners failed. Thankfully, this blinded many fans, who would otherwise have to witness a Montreal Canadiens game. On a funny note, on April 13, the Sens played the defending Stanley Cup champion New Jersey Devils, who needed one win to clinch the last spot in the Eastern Conference. The Sens would screw them over by winning 5-2, which eliminated the Devils from the playoffs, and let the Tampa Bay Lightning, the team that entered the league the same year as the Sens, their first playoff birth. The Devils would return the favor in 2003. Damn...

Amazing to think they only had 41 points
And it was kind of good. The Oilers right now have 49 points, and another 12 games to go. This team was soooooooooooooooooo bad.
