Volchenkov going?
We are pretty lucky as Canadians and Sens fans to have a lot going on after the jubilation of the Gold medal game and now with the trade deadline coming up on Wednesday and the Volchenkov talks going no where. Looking at the calibre of players so far that have been getting teams 2nd round picks, you have to think Volchenkov will get at least a first. There are only a handful of quality top 4 defenceman available this deadline and I think we can agree Volchenkov is that. So this sets up Bryan Murray very well if he has to trade Volchenkov. Should he trade him and get what he can now? If he knows Volchenkov probably won't resign, will he keep him for the playoffs and lose him to nothing? Very hard decisions for Murray have to be made.

Murray has stated that he won't be trading Volchenkov
And I believe him. I haven’t heard that the Volchenkov talks are going nowhere; there just isn’t any news. To me, the two are not synonymous. The two parties technically have until the start of free agency to reach a deal, so there’s no real pressure to get something done by Wednesday. I personally think he will re-sign with the club.

Murray was on TEAM 1200...
…and he said the Volchenkov talks have gone no where. When asked if he would consider trading Volchenkov, today Murray left it open as a real possibility; he’s listening to offers. May be positioning for contract discussions, but it is looking like trading Volchenkov could be closer to reality than it was last time we heard.
Yeah, Murray sounded pretty downtrodden today on TEAM.

Murray's always like that, isn't he?
I sometimes wonder if the guy missed his calling as a politician or an actor or something. He’s pretty good at saying something and having the opposite be true. It just makes it that much more interesting as a Senators fan.

Volchenkov holds all the cards
This guy is a horse, and has even contributed offensively this year. A dman who hits and blocks shots and shuts down the oppositions best players is really valuable. Now that we have another penalty-prone dman added to the team, Volchenkov becomes even more valuable. The best players hold all the cards these days. I hope that Murray shows some good negotiation skills, cause if we lose this guy, it’ll be a short walk to the golf course.
I agree.
Murray can’t really trade Volchenkov now and he won’t unless he gets an incredible offer. I think Murray has decided that it’s worth it to keep Volchenkov even if they lose him in the summer. It really impresses me how Murray has always tried his best to make the team better. I think he has done a great job showing the players that the organization believes in them and want to help them have success. I am sure this means a lot more to the players than we know and down the line it will reward the club somehow. Who knows, players will want to play here and they might get some more luck in the free agency market if need be.
