Game 59: Ottawa Senators @ Toronto Maple Leafs
Ottawa Senators at Toronto Maple Leafs, Feb 6, 2010 7:00 PM EST
Hey Ottawa Senators, it's me, Darren. This is some win streak you've been on, eh? Eleven games is far more than I ever could have dreamed of, so I feel a bit selfish asking for one more. But to be completely honest, you simply cannot lose this game tonight. Yes, I know that there's that guy from the Stanley Cup Finals in net, and that Phaneuf guy probably wants to kill Jarkko Ruutu for that little tripping incident (H/t to The 6th Sens). I also understand those Leafs are going to be in crush-kill-destroy mode after suffering an embarrassing meltdown against the New Jersey Devils last night. There is some serious adversity to overcome, but you absolutely have to overcome it.
You see, you simply cannot let them win. This win streak cannot end in Toronto, because if it does, people everywhere will say "Wait, they lost to Toronto?" It will nullify the impressiveness that is an eleven game winning streak. Furthermore, Chemmy, PPP, and JaredFromLondon will probably come on here and heckle us, and I simply can't take that kind of antagonism.
I'm sure all Senators fans agree with me, so let's see some of that discussion on this big game in the comments.

I'm so stoked for this game
But I don’t think I’m going to be able to watch it. Argh! Why did I have to schedule a meeting for 4:30?

Interesting fact for tonight's game.
It features the league’s worst PP against the league’s worst PK.
So it’s the unstoppable force against the immovable object?

Good God
Anybody who thinks Luongo should start over Brodeur at the Olympics should take a mirror, look into it, then take it, and smash it over thier heads.
It’s Brodeur unless he falls apart and even then it would be Fleury as I’d rather not see Kane do this against Luongo at the Olympics.
"Negative energy is better than no energy at all"- "Iron" Mike Keenan
I live in Vancouver
And I am honestly, swear to god, fucking sick of this conversation. I’m sick of this stupid Olympic team. Go Sweden for all I care.
This is precisely why Luongo shouldn’t have been picked because with his attitude (and the story itself) he’ll become a distraction to the team.
"Negative energy is better than no energy at all"- "Iron" Mike Keenan
The story itself is a story that has very little to do with Luongo and a lot to do with the intense scrutiny put on the Olympic team in this country
It could have been between five peewee goalies and it’d get the same level of airtime devoted to it.
If you’re going to pick apart the team for “bad attitudes” then consider some of the other players on the team, like Dany Heatley. That’s a far worse apple.
Cam Ward is and should’ve been there instead of crybox Luongo.
"Negative energy is better than no energy at all"- "Iron" Mike Keenan
He didn’t help himself this week after calling out his teammates after the 3rd goal against Montreal.
"Negative energy is better than no energy at all"- "Iron" Mike Keenan
That play was insane and honestly someone should have done something after the 3rd shot
I’m not a Luongo apologist by any means, but I don’t buy into this one. What he needed to do more than anything else was agree to sit out a game. He did that against Ottawa and came back strong this morning.
Could he not have addressed his teammates in the dressing room and not to the media. Lead by example, not words.
"Negative energy is better than no energy at all"- "Iron" Mike Keenan
Fair enough

Not so much on the Norris Trophy part
He was suggesting Phaneuf should have beaten out Lidstrom in 2007-08 because he had more goals, more hits, and more fights.
Except that year, Lidstrom had as many assists as Phaneuf had points, Lidstrom was +40 and Phaneuf was +12, and Lidstrom’s team won the President’s Trophy with 115 points, while Phaneuf’s finished in seventh in the West with 94.
