"I was really excited it was Ottawa I was traded to. I've played for Bryan Murray in Anaheim and I really enjoyed it. So I'm certainly looking forward to that, and I have a good knowledge of how good Ottawa is as a team. For me it's exciting, it's a new start after a tough season.
...
It wasn't something that caught me totally off guard, and I'm just really happy it was to such a good team as Ottawa. I'm really looking forward to it."

He's going to be locked in a serious battle with Alfie
For most “uhhs” per sentence.

Man, what a great response
Obviously, he knows his audience, and he’s not going to say anything like, “No, I don’t want to go there, this isn’t for me,” but that quote makes him sound genuinely excited. Which is great, because I think he’s a good fit for the team, and that the team’s a good fit for him.

I totally forgot that he played for Murray in Anaheim
Another great reason to like this trade. Actually I like all 3 moves today (2 by the Senators and the 1 by the ’Hawks).
GO CANADA! Should be a great opening ceremony tonight!
"Negative energy is better than no energy at all"- "Iron" Mike Keenan
Of course he played for Murray before
Isn’t that a prerequisite for Murray acquisitions?

We’re getting him for a tryout, basically. What’s the worst that can happen, for a team that’s not going anywhere this year, to take on a guy who’ll be an RFA? If it works out, great, if not, no big loss — we still get the draft pick, and save a little cash on Cullen as well. Some of the other people on CC are excited about the dude, but I’ve got no delusions about Picard — he sure has moved around a lot for a young guy. But the ‘Canes have had some success with guys who didn’t fit elsewhere (and, conversely, guys who didn’t fit here have had great success elsewhere — see Leighton). It’s going to be an interesting rest of the season for both of our teams, for different reasons. Best of luck for the rest of the season, and I hope Cully works out well for you guys. He was my favorite player.
Thanks for coming by
Picard’s shown some strong play, but it’s been completely offset by the deficiencies when he’s not thinking right. Still, I think he’ll become at least an everyday NHL player, instead of a borderline NHLer.
As for Cullen, I’m very excited to see what he can do tonight.

Totally not the right place for it, but...
…I found a Senators bar here in Victoria, and they have no idea who Darren is.
Is that surprising?
I doubt many bloggers go around to bars advertising their allegiances.

Well I followed up by asking if he read any blogs and he said no
But he did semi-demand I come by for a game sometime. I think I shall one day. I took a picture of the flag outside the pub, but I haven’t checked it out yet.
Happy Birthday to Darren and Alix today.

Hahaha, was it Garrick's Head?
I’ve never been there for a game. And I tend to not be on a first name basis with bars.

Yes it was! We were eating at Rebar.
I think we know where we’ll have to meet up for drinks. Perhaps on the next Western swing?

I don't care for Rebar
their vegan options are EXTREMELY limited. Also, no wheelchair access, which doesn’t affect me but is still not a good thing.
But yeah, next time you’re in Vic we’ll meet at Garrick’s Head, for sure.

Wasn't my pick, but it wasn't my birthday
Their smoothie selection is quite spectacular.
I’ll have to get a ride to said pub since I don’t tend to drive after having a couple drinks. Safety first.
