Cullen might be key
The Sens are abviously gambling that Cullen will be the answer to our ailing powerplay. Picard is no big loss as we have Karlsson and Campoli who do what Picard does better on most nights. And even though alot of you have given up on Lee, I haven't yet. He'll just take a little longer to develop than expected. NHL centres can play on the wing, so Cullen will be versatile. Cullen is a huge upgrade over Cheechoo who as much as you gotta love his work ethic just doesn't have it anymore. Mark Cheechoo down as someone who killed their career by signing a big contract, and then not coming through. That happens these days. Matt Cullen gives the Sens alot of new options, and makes our already awesome PK even better. The second round pick is alot to give up, so here's hoping that Cullen comes through and resigns.

Is there even room to re-sign him next year?
Considering Anton is going to get a nice raise, same with Foligno and others… I’d highly doubt it. We’ll see, though.

Well, Cheechoo is "done with Ottawa"
At least according to Garrioch. If he’s not around next year, maybe some of that will be put towards keeping Cullen around.
It’s definitely going to take some time, though; we need to make sure he’s not a bust like so many other deadline deals.

There's not room currently
But I don’t think Murray is done making moves, personally.

Don't see Cullen coming back.
I think Cullen is a great addition to the team but we need to leave room for our upcoming players as well as needing the cap room. I don’t see Murray wanting to sign a player who will be 34 next season. We have enough veterans on the team and I think Murray will thank Cullen for contributing and wish him luck.
I think a lot of it will depend on his play
If he’s clutch and contributes, Murray will probably try to find a way to re-sign him.

Just don't see it happening.
With Cullen on pace for having a career year and at his age, he’ll be looking to sign his last higher dollar contract. I don’t see why and how the Sens could keep him, and playing very well will only increase his value. Don’t get me wrong, I want to see him be a major contributor, but the Sens probably won’t afford to keep him after this season. If we sign him we’ll have a lot of veterans and I don’t think the Sens want to risk ending up like…Carolina ironically.
You're probably right
The amount he’ll be looking for will have a lot to do with whether Ottawa even attempts to make an offer.

How much is Cullen making this year?

2.875M
But he’ll re-sign for more, likely.

Yeah, and..
That figure is probably at least a million more than the Senators are willing to pay a centre on the team, especially with Kelly here. The next couple months will tell but still is a trade that I think was worth it, although second round picks are pretty valuable now. It was the Sharks second round pick from 2011 too I believe? Maybe Murray is also thinking the Sharks might have a bad year since Nabokov is UFA and there will be a couple players who will moving. Kinda makes me smile wondering if the Sharks can continue their ‘success’ in three years with all their longer term contract guys getting up there.
My bad
but please Murray don’t go and trade any picks away for a goaltender or something like that, I can take the 2nd rounder for Cullen, but I think anything more would be a mistake for Ottawa. We have built some good depth in the organization but the work is not done yet…
