Mike Brodeur reassigned to Binghamton
The starter of the win streak, Mike "Not Martin" Brodeur, has been reassigned to the Binghmaton Senators of the AHL. Mike's three games in the NHL were, of course, very memorable:
Mike's demotion comes because Pascal Leclaire has recovered from the concussion he suffered at practice on January 14th. Some had speculated that Leclaire might get an AHL conditioning stint to reach form while Elliott handles the starter role, but that's obviously not the case.
Ottawa has a double-header this week, playing Buffalo on Wednesday and then Vancouver on Thursday. No word yet on if Leclaire will see one of those starts, but it's always a possibility in a back-to-back.
It's a shame that Not Martin only got three starts at the NHL level, but he definitely made the most of the ones he got. Hopefully he can bring the same quality of play to the struggling B-Sens, who have lost 7 of their last 10 games and currently sit 14th in the Eastern Conference.

The question on everyone's mind:
How long until Brodeur is back up with the Sens?
Three weeks?

less than that. 10 days. would you rather have Broduer or Leclaire at this point?

Leclaire.
I know that Brodeur played lights out while he was up here, but he was rarely tested. Short term, Brodeur might be better to have for making the simple saves, but long term I have to pick Leclaire.
If Leclaire can start stopping the really bad goals, he’ll be a fantastic goalie. His ceiling is higher than either Elliott or Brodeur, although he’s playing far below his potential.

I know.
Mason was the hot hand at the time and was incredible last year — you can’t look at this year’s Mason.

No doubt about it
Not Martin is an eternal Sens Hero for righting a sinking ship but Leclaire has potential to be a long term #1 guy.

Leclaire without a doubt.
The man can play well, he just needs to stop trying to save pucks with his damn face. But really I think he just needs to get into a rhythm and have a nice solid stretch of games.

Maybe, but would you really sit Elliott for anyone right now?

It seems like it would have been common sense to have sent him for a conditioning stint. Snoopy needs games with how much he’s missed this year. He’s not going to be able to get into a groove of any sort if Elliott keeps up and essentially forces the team to go with the hot hand. I’d love to see Leclaire actually step up to the challenge on his #1 spot and reclaim it with some stellar goaltending.

Hopefully Not Martin gets another NHL chance
If not this year, then the following year. Unless he likes Binghamton and decides he wants to stay there!

Oh PeterR, you've obviously never been to Binghamton
I was born there, lived there for quite awhile. Sad to say this, but it’s a real dump now (altho they do still have some great Italian restaurants there). Scary bad.
Ottawa needs ya, Not Martin! Please come back soon (since Leclaire will most likely hurt something else before the season is over)

If he doesn't get another chance with Ottawa, he'll land someplace else
Even though it’s a small sample size, his play in the NHL will have been noticed by some other teams.

Plus he's got an AHL All-Star nod on his belt
That’s not too shabby, either, especially since he’ll be very cheap anyway.

I would like to see how Leclaire plays
I agree with the fact that he has a higher ceiling as you said DarrenM. It’s a good idea to have Leclaire play to get him back into things… but at the same time, why mess with something good? Something that is working well?
Maybe he’ll play on Thursday against the Canucks, since it’s a back-to-back situation. But if he plays well, and since he is our number 1, he will probably play on Saturday too. There are risks to playing Leclaire. What if he starts of well, but then resorts to his old ways of not stopping bad goals? How long should he play before he is replaced by Elliot again?
The good thing for us is that we, the team, and Elliot himself, now know that Elliot has the capability to play well. So at least we can rely on a decent back-up goalie. In my opinion, these 6 games were not a fluke, Elliot just needed to discover himself, and needed a motivation/inspiration. The team, knowing that the goaltending issue is starting to fade, will have the confidence to play the way they have been playing for the past 9 games.

The team still needs a goalie coach
But due to superstitions in hockey, probably won’t do it until the goalies really play poorly.
