Ottawa Senators prospect roundup: October 27th, 2010

AHL

Binghamton Senators (1-0-0-1 this week, 3-3-0-1 overall, 7 Pts tied for 4th)

The Week in Review:

Friday, October 22nd, 2010
Binghamton 1, Hartford 0

Notes:

  • Barry Brust was amazing on this night. He stopped all 28 shots, and was on fire in the second: He frustrated the Wolf Pack by stopping all 14 shots in the period. By the end of the game, Brust had strung together 88 minutes and 53 seconds of shutout hockey!
  • Binghamton was outplayed in the first 40 minutes being outshot 20-10 (14-3 in the second period). The game's lone goal came from Erik Condra, scoring his second goal in two games. After a hard check by Hartford defensemen Ryan McDonagh on Cody Bass left both players on the ice, Condra was able to score off a 2-on-1 with Jim O'Brien with 3:10 left in the game.
  • Former Senator defensemen Wade Redden played tonight, he had two shots, a minus, and two penalty minutes off a holding call in the second.
  • Cody Bass and Francis Lessard returned into the lineup from injuries for the game against the Wolf Pack.

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 2, Binghamton 1 (Shootout)

Notes:

  • Barry Brust shutout streak ended at 129:45, off a power-play goal from Steve Wagner in the third. Brust was still fantastic, as he stopped 36 shots off the undefeated Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
  • Binghamton was able to score with the extra attacker in the final minute, with Corey Locke scoring the tying goal. His goal came out of a scramble after a point shot from Andre Benoit, who was credited with the assist along with Erik Condra.
  • Sadly, YouTube sensation Kaspars Daugavins didn't score in the shootout, but Captain Ryan Keller did, answering after Dustin Jeffrey scored the first goal of the shootout. Binghamton wasn't able to score for the rest of the shootout, and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton won off a goal by forward Keven Veilleux.

ECHL

Elmira Jackals (2-0-1 this week, 3-0-1 overall, First Place, 8 points first place)

The Week in Review:

Friday, October 22nd, 2010
Wheeling 3, Elmira 2 (OT)

Notes:

  • Justin Donati scored the only goals for Elmira. The first coming off a two-on-one from Yannick Tifu in the first. His second was tipped in after a Brennan Turner wrist shot, which tied the game in the third. The Jackals were able to kill off an extended penalty in overtime, but weren't able to win, with Nailers forward Andrew Orpik scoring with 1:29 left.

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010
Elmira 7, Reading 2

Notes:

  • Justin Donati continued his fantastic start with the only goal in the first period in the final seconds of a power play. Reading was able to tie it in the second with goals from Matt Caruana, but Elmira answered with a goal off the rebound from Eric Lampe--and didn't look back. Things got heated in the third with a huge brawl involving six players (three from each team) receiving game misconducts. The total of 152 penalty minutes ties the 2009-2010 ECHL season high between Las Vegas and Alaska--which, incidentally enough, happened on the same date last season.
  • The fight worked for Elimra, as they scored 5 goals in the third. Eric Lampe scored his second of the game on the power play. A.J. Perry scored two goals as well, and Michael Dubuc added to his ECHL-leading goal total. Dustin Cameron scored his first professional goal on a 2-on-1, and Yannick Tifu finished with the game's final goal.

Sunday, October 24th, 2010
Elmira 3, Reading 2

Notes:

  • The Elmira Jackals defense held the Reading Royals to only 17 shots, the second time in the season the Jackals were able to hold a team to under 20 shots, a huge reason to the Jackals 6-point lead in the Atlantic Division. For the fifth straight game, the Jackals got on the board first, with a goal from Eric Lampe in the first. In the second, Eric Regan scored off a shot that bounced past Royals goalie Ben Scrivens, to make it 2-0. Reading answered back with a goal from Ryan Cruthers to end the second 2-1. Both goals in the period were on the power play.
  • Oren Eizenman scored on a break away off a neutral-zone interception by Michael Dubuc, again on the power play. Alain Goulet scored the final goal of the game off a bullet, making the game 3-2 in favor of the Jackals.
