[***UPDATE*** The response was overwhelming. Literally, in the case of the scheduling tool, which had trouble keeping up with all the last-minute updates. In the end, I determined that a Friday night draft was simply too little lead time and with so many people expressing a desire to postpone it, I have tentatively rescheduled the draft for Saturday night at 7 PM EDT.]
[***UPDATE*** The league is now full. If you were not one of the 20 who got in, but would still like to participate, please leave a comment below and we'll look into adding a second Division]
I’m not sure how much interest there might be in this, especially given how late in the season it is, but I thought I’d put it out there that I am willing to host a Silver Seven fantasy league on Yahoo.
I thought that maybe in lieu of a GDT, we could use the Live Chat feature of a fantasy draft to follow a game, whilst we pick our teams. It doesn’t have to be this weekend, but it should be noted that any draft not completed by Sunday will prevent us from scoring any points until the 18th of October.
Perhaps delaying the draft for a few weeks wouldn’t be a horrible idea. A 20-team league that begins play on November 1st would create a symmetrical 19-week schedule, as well as allow us to exploit the knowledge that comes with having watched three or more weeks of regular season games.
So I’ll leave it up to you guys to decide if it’s more important to get in on the ground floor, before the season begins, or if taking our time to assemble 20 site members, discuss rule changes, and decide on a draft date that we can all live with, is the better option.
In the meantime, feel free to visit the proposed league and register your team. You can always drop out after inspecting the settings, so don’t be shy to pop your head in. The league is now full, but leave a comment below if you didn't get in. Maybe someone will drop out, or maybe we'll add a second Division.
If you don’t already have a Yahoo account, signup is easy. You can even choose to register as a Canadian and let them gear news and stuff to your tastes, like what Balsillie's up to today, or how to build an igloo, or the best way to club a baby seal.
Of course, then you'd be on the grid, anytime the gubmint wanted to find you, so proceed at your own risk. You'd also get a free [dot] .ca email address, which you can check once every two years, like I do. So there's that. (I just reroute all league correspondance to my main inbox).
If this is something that you'd like to do, then head on over to our scheduling site, to register your preferred date and time to hold our draft. I'd recommend using the slidey thingie at the top of the page to make things smaller. You should then "paint", or block out a three hour window of your ideal time, and we can work from there. Or you could paint a whole whack of times when you'd be free.
Don't just pick a single 15-minute start time and be done with it - paint a whole 3-hour block. For late night drafts (which begin as late as 11:45 PM EDT), I guess you could just paint up until midnight. When you're finished, type in your SBN handle at the bottom right, where it says name, and maybe a comment such as, "Anytime on the weekend" or whatever. Then click on Send Response and we'll use this data to choose the best date and time that corresponds to what most people want.
I guess that's it. And if you already have a fantasy team, my question to you is, "can anyone ever have too many teams?"
I already have seven on my account, so this would make it eight (eat your baby seal heart out, Balsillie).
I should note here that SkinnyFish, over at pensionplanpuppets.com turned me onto the idea that SBN is the perfect platform for recruiting a dedicated group of like-minded individuals. I haven't done this with a team-specific blog for a few years now, but what better way to get together outside of this site, while remaining in our pajamas.
