Around SBN: Champions League Preview with Jimmy Conrad

Yesterday's GameDay Thread for Haiti got 3,191 comments before 11:59 p.m. PST, meaning that we're sending $159.55 to the Red Cross for Haitian earthquake relief. A lot of different people were a huge part of it, and thanks to everyone who joined in!

(The game review will be up later this afternoon)

and that’s including 50+ mins of the site being down!

That was prime commenting time, too.

Very cool thing that you folks did, and it was fun to be a part of it.

Holy crap

We’ve found on LL that you probably need to put new threads up after 1,000 posts or so. Otherwise people’s computers start to die.

Yeah

putting up new threads probably would’ve been wise, but it’s great seeing a thread with that many posts, heh.

well...

If you didn’t have such an enormous thread before, how were you to know? :)

I warned you . . .

but you didn’t believe me. WHY didn’t you believe me?!?! haha. In all seriousness, I’d seen that slowdown before in football threads, and I thought I’d reiterate the warning someone issued on the SBN group.

yeah … that’s what happened to me … I had to give up after trying a few times … but I still got a bunch of comments in :)

Sorry it didn't work out!

We did think of splitting the threads, but I really wanted to keep all the comments under the one thread, just so it’d be easy to see them add up. But if we do something like this again, we’ll probably have to split the thread.

Thanks for coming by and helping us out, though!

It was a ton of fun! Can you do any sort of leaderboard for comments or anything? Most common words used? I WANT GRAPHS DAMMIT

Nice

Cornelius and I together could buy two large pizzas for Haiti. Or for us.

I'm pretty sure they did!

Nickel was, if I had to guess, the most commonly-used word throughout the post.

It should have been jizz.

Matt Bradley is my fµcking hero, I mean he was before, but now he’s like double or something.

lots of fun, good job everyone.
it’s amazing how well we did, especially considering that incredibly annoying 50 minute SBNation crash. during that time, i was just hoping we hadn’t actually crashed it ourselves by putting too many comments at once on a single thread…….
it would be interesting to see the numbers for how many times people commented (i’ve seen it done before, so i know it’s possible).

Unfortunately, mine was one of the computers that couldn’t handle the volume. Even after the server came back up I just got stalled anytime I tried to go back in and add some more commentary. I expect the goal of 4000 comments might well have been achieved other than those technical issues.

Congrats to the crew of Silver Seven for a job well done. Nice win for your boys, too!
