Game 48: Ottawa Senators @ New York Rangers
Ottawa Senators at New York Rangers, Jan 14, 2010 7:00 PM EST
Finally! Mike "Not Martin" Brodeur has come back! To New York City! Everyone's favorite goalie was recalled today when Pascal Leclaire was injured breathing in practice and backup Brian Elliot came down with the flu. Tonight ,the Senators try to break out of their five game losing streak against Henrik Lundqvist and the Rangers. It will not be an easy task as they have been outscored 22-5 over those past five. Lundqvist is probably the last person they want to see, but the team is far past the excuses stage. Back to back shamings by Carolina and Atlanta should be enough to get some fire for this game. The team has started well in the first period during this losing streak -- they just haven't buried their chances. If they can tonight, the pressure will ease. Besides Not Martin and Lundqvist here are some other guys to watch tonight:
Mike Fisher: Early in the season he showed he could be dominant when not facing other teams' best lines. Now, he has to at least show he can produce against top players.
Alex Kovalev: Yep, another usual suspect here. The team doesn't need another four-goal night from him, but if he plays at that level, it will open up space for his linemates.
Erik Karlsson: His play has been strong of late. If he has a soft game tonight, this one could get ugly quickly.
Marian Gaborik: The Senators have broken some other players' slumps recently and Gaborik has just two goals and three assists in his last nine games. He's got to be licking his chops going against someone playing in just their second game.
Chris Drury: Even though he is not putting up the numbers he once was, I still consider him one of the most clutch players in the league. Let's hope the puck isn't on his stick with a 2-2 tie and less than a minute to go.
As always, your presence is requested in the comments thread, where I can promise a good time no matter tonight's outcome!

Agreed
But shouldn’t Hammer Smashed Face be inspired by Donovan?

You do
But it’s okay, I understand.

It's not surprising to me
They started this way against Carolina, too. They just need to bury their chances for a change.
SMITH WITH THE DANGLE
but can’t score.

well, the TV announcers might have it wrong. I feel like in latvia they might not say Dog-gavins.

I always thought it was ‘doe-GAH-vinz’ but that was an uneducated assumption.

I like how they call Carkner a kid
i guess that happens with rookies.
Silver Seven: the Daniel Alfredsson of Ottawa Senators blogs.
The MSG guys are calling him "Kovalov"
You’d think they’d be kind of familiar with him.

where would this team be without Carkner?
I really hope he’s a finalist for the masterton trophy.

Selke
Best defensive forward. Because he’s both.

hahaha, that’s why I wonder if he’d be excluded from masterton. I don’t think they like to give it to fighters.
Silver Seven: the Daniel Alfredsson of Ottawa Senators blogs.
one problem: we now have been without carkner for the majority of the game.

What a shot from Karlsson.

If Wilson was still around Not Martin would not be playing
Eli Wilson would play a one-legged Elliott over him.

Is this a typo?
It says the logo has been in use since 2009. I really hope this foreshadows a return of the old whites (and hopefully old blacks)
ryanclassic.net
I hope so
That is my favorite sports logo. But I think they’re just keeping the copyright on it so no one else can use it.
it's odd anyway you consider it
because it doesn’t have “Ottawa Senators” running down the right side like the previous side-profile logo did… so it’s kind of the same but different
never mind
just looked at an old puck and it doesn’t have that lettering. i’ve been smoking crack apparently
Mark Parisi’s user avatar has that lettering.
Silver Seven: the Daniel Alfredsson of Ottawa Senators blogs.
noticed that a month ago, but didn’t read anything into it. It’d be nice to see that logo come back, though.

good point.

Why does Zach Smith bother putting the Z. in front of Smith?
It’s not like Jason’s on the team anymore.
Silver Seven: the Daniel Alfredsson of Ottawa Senators blogs.
They talked about it during the Thrasher's game
It’s his same jersey from last year when Jason was on the team
That's somewhat insulting.
You probably won’t be here long anyway, so here’s last years recycled jersey.
Haha, Shannon
Did anyone see him do that drop pass where he pretended to continue to stickhandle?

That was awesome
A lot of guys have been opening their bomb doors tonight. Especially Regin and Karlsson.
