Silver Nuggets: Schubert to Waivers, Smith to AHL, Lehner Gets Nickname
Welcome to your daily dose of Ottawa Senators related stories from around the web:
- Christoph Schubert has been placed on waivers, and Zach Smith has been assigned to Binghamton. I'd be lying if I said either of those was a surprise. Hopefully someone picks up Schubert so that
Eug doesn't have to pay himhe can continue to play. (Twitter) - In case you didn't realize it, that means that Matt Carkner is still kicking around on the roster. Pretty impressive for a guy that nobody suspected would be anywhere near the final round of cuts.
- Goaltending prospect Robin Lehner is 2-0 with the Soo Greyhounds, and has already earned a nickname: Real Estate. The coach says it's because he's "big as a house," while Leafs fans insist it is a reference to the current housing market. (Slam)
- The Senators spent the weekend at an RCMP training facility in order to help the rookies learn team building skills and to teach Chris Neil self-defence in case Milan Lucic comes after him again. (Citizen)
- Ken Warren complains about a lack of chemistry between Senators players during the preseason, without mentioning that the roster was different every single night. (Canada.com)
- First-round draft pick Jared Cowen has been named captain of the Spokane Chiefs. (Raw Feed)
- Our friend Ben at Sens Army is hosting a live blog party for the Sens season opener on October 3rd. If you're staying in to watch the game, be sure to log on and join in the conversation. (Sens Army)
- Brandon Bochenski was placed on waivers. Man, if only that happened before the preseason, the Sens could've done better than 2-4! (Ice Chips)
- Update: Some close-up shots of Pascal Leclaire's goalie mask have been posted on the artist's Flickr site. Would've been better if the Spartan on the side was the one from the Stanley Cup Finals... (Flickr)

Great news about Lehner and Cowen. Murray has taken a lot of heat in recent years, but he has done a good job of restocking the kitchen. I won’t be surprised when the Sens make the playoffs this year.
I don’t think the great drafting that Murray’s team has assembled will be fully evident for another few years, but there are some really terrific prospects in the organization. I just wish the team had a top-shelf offensive prospect lined up.
Andre Petersson!
Give him a couple years.
Also, I hope Gustavsson turns out as valuable to Toronto and Frogren turned out to be.

I'm not sure what's less intimidating...
The decrepit old Spartan dude on the side, or the Snoopy in goalie pads.
