I sniffed a little bit of the NHL last year and when you get that smell, you want to get more because it smells better than the (AHL), that's for sure.

Smelly...

There’s something disturbing about that quote… really. Lol!

I think it's an awesome quote

I liked the way he played last year, could definitely step in as a third-liner this season if his development continued. Second line may be pushing it, for now, but maybe in the near future.

Heatley-Spezza-Alfie
Shannon-Fisher-Kovalev
Foligno-Kelly-Regin
Ruutu-Winchester-Neil

(Pending the trade, of course)

Not a fan of that lineup at all

FFS should not be broken up for anything AN-EEE-THIIIIIING!!!!

What else could they do, though? Shannon-Kelly-Regin makes even less sense.

Kelly is the problem. He needs to be traded so that Regin can center the thrid line.

Heatley-Spezza-Alfie
Foligno-Fisher-Kovalev
Shannon-Regin-Zubov
Ruutu-Winchester-Neil

I’d feel much better about that.

The Kids

Sorry, Zubov is a non-starter. I’ve met this kid and he is not ready for the NHL. Way too much growing up to do first. As for Regin, he made Cody Bass look real good at the prospect camp. He will probably be pretty good down the road, but not this Fall – no way. In fact, I couldn’t say that any of the prospects are ready, including Karlsson.

The Sens need legit NHLers now. Winchester is already just border line.

The problem with all those line-up suggestions is that Kelly, Winchester and Fisher are all wrong for Kovalev . He is much better suited to Spezza.

I also agree that Shannon and Foligno are a pair that should remain together. Fisher can be moved if need be and can play with Neil and Ruutu, etc…

You can’t always just put the players on lines in order of their individual talent.. Sometimes when you put two great players together, you lose both. Finding the right match-ups will require some time and trial and error.

You're right

Kovalev does belong with a player like Spezza. The problem is… who do you move down from that line? It has to be Alfie, right? So while that gives us Foligno-Fisher-Alfredsson, a line that makes me happy in special places, it also gives us Heatley-Spezza-Kovalev, a line that looks good on paper, but I worry has too many shooters. I’m already having nightmares about them getting squashed by the checking lines of the West.

That leaves the third line a mess.

They definitely need legit NHLers now, but the cap position they’re in doesn’t give the team that luxury. The team needs to dump salary, which means guys like Kelly are going bye-bye if Heatley isn’t traded. Ready or not, I think some kids are going to get thrown into the fire this year. It just can’t be helped.
