Pressure from Heatley hot on the presses

Well, any Senators fans who were disappointed at the lack of Ottawa Senators coverage in the media don't have any excuses to be disappointed any more. Since it came out that Dany Heatley has asked to be traded out of Ottawa, the mainstream media and the blogosphere has been absolutely abuzz with stories.

The response seems to be complete shock (Well this just hit me like a tonne of bricks - Scarlett Ice) through spiteful anger (That's ultimate douchebaggery - Sens Buzz) and towards excited anticipation (Do you think we can trade him for Crosby, Malkin, and a first-round pick?). Some of the rumours out there are just out there, while some seem rooted in realistic possibilites.

To give you a few snippets, here's what the Ottawa Sun's Don Brennan has to say on his blog:

Don't shed too many tears over what is now the inevitable departure of Dany Heatley.

The Senators will be better off without him.

Sure, his goals will be missed. But the millions the team saves on his salary will buy back some goals, and maybe even some character.

That last quality, Heatley lacks.

And to contrast that, here's what Jeremy Milks from Black Aces thinks about the dilemma:

Perhaps he simply wants to win a championship, which Ottawa is now seemingly farther from than ever.

Yet Bryan Murray has an opportunity here to at least re-stock his depth and possibly pick up a promising prospect.

But make no mistake. Losing Heatley and his dependable, and often spectacular, goal scoring is going to hurt this team. You are simply not going to be able to replace his 40 – 50 goals in a trade.

Plenty of discussion to come, you can be sure. To help you find out about all the headlines, check below the jump for a listing of dozens of stories from across the blogosphere and into the mainstream.
