Three prospects make Sweden's World Junior squad
The official roster for Team Sweden at the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championship was released today, and three Ottawa Senators prospects made the cut. Andre Petersson, Jakob Silfverberg, and Erik Karlsson made the squad, while goaltender Robin Lehner sadly did not make the cut.
Petersson and Silfverberg both currently play forward in the Sweden Elitserien (SEL). Petersson has 6 goals and 1 assist, while Silfverberg has 3 goals, 3 assists.
Karlsson is currently playing with the Senators, and there's no word yet if Bryan Murray will release him for this tournament. I would venture a guess that he would, though, as it's no doubt something Karlsson would want to do and would be great for his development.
Team Canada will not be announcing its official roster until after just before the tournament starts in December. Jared Cowen is expected to make the team, while Patrick Wiercioch -- who was invited to last year's training camp as well as the one this summer -- should make a strong case for himself as well.

I am rather suprirsed that Lehner didn’t make the team. I figured he have a shot at being the backup or 3rd goalie if they have such a thing. Strange.

Well...
It’s probably just as well that Lehner gets to play games in the OHL rather than sit on the bench in Regina.
The big problem is he had H1N1 when the team’s scouts came to Canada during their tour. There were a number of surprises left off the team, and a lot of them were CHL players.

I am rather surprised that Lehner didn't make it
But that’s probably because I’m way too high on the kid as it is.
As for Karlsson taking part in the tournament, it depends how well he does leading up to December. If he doesn’t look like he’ll stick in the NHL, they might as well assign him to the AHL (to avoid paying him extra money) and let him play in the tourney. If he’s contributing to Ottawa, he’s not going anywhere.

with the numbers lehner has been posting
especially considering he’s only just made the jump to north american hockey this year, shocking is the least you can say about his failure to make the team. but life goes on, and so does his development.

Yeah, he'll keep dominating the OHL
I have a feeling he’ll make the jump to pro next year, too, and play for Binghamton. If he keeps playing like he’s been playing, he’s a shoo-in for the WJC team next winter.
