Silver Nuggets: Keller called up, Fisher out tonight

Here are your Ottawa Senators stories for today:

  • UPDATE: Mike Fisher will be out tonight with an upper body injury. It's apparently not serious. (Gordon)
  • To fill in for Fisher, the Sens called up Ryan Keller from Binghamton. Keller leads the B-Sens with 13 goals, 9 assists, and a +15 rating. (Senators)
  • The lines at today's skate: Michalek-Spezza-Shannon; Foligno-Regin-Alfredsson; Ruutu-Kelly-Neil; Cheechoo-Winchester-Keller. (Twitter)
  • UPDATE (from Peter): In Lou We Trust has an insanely in-depth preview for tonight's game, which includes a guest appearance from yours truly (Peter) on Dean McAmmond as well as a look at tonight's matchup. (ILWT)
  • Good feature on Milan Michalek and his Olympic hopes. I don't think Milan has to worry about making the Czech Republic team. (Senators)
  • Highly-touted goalie prospect Robin Lehner was named the CHL Goalie of the Week after posting two shutouts, a 0.67 GAA and a save percentage of .974 in the past three games. Congrats to Robin on his recognition. (CHL)
  • Mike Brodeur on getting called up: "I was as happy as a kid in a candy store." Hey, he sounds like the other Brodeur! (Canoe)
  • Your prediction panel for tonight. Looks like most feel the Senators' luck has run its course. (Citizen)
  • Good article on how the Sens have found success in the basics. (National Post)
  • Finally, Dany Heatley Speedwagon with a clever discussion of the performance of various Sens players. (Scarlett Ice)
  • UPDATE (from Peter): Obviously, Robin Lehner is in contention for a spot on Sweden's World Junior Championships team, but did you know that his teammate Tomas Rachunek, who happens to be the son (crazy, right?) of former Senators defenceman Karel Rachunek, is in contention for a spot on the Czech Republic team? Hahahaha… I FanShotted just after you Silver Nuggeted! I’ll delete the FanShot…

That’s bad news bears, though. Hopefully it’s nothing that will impact the insane pace he’s on so far.

Fisher?

He is the one player — right now — that the Senators could least afford to be out of the lineup.

It's never about the eventual destination, but rather the long journey and its challenging obstacles that are presented and what it takes to overcome them, that makes the taste of success all the more worthwhile!!!

No kidding. Missing Fisher, Volchenkov, Kovalev, Leclaire and Donovan? Geez. Talk about missing a few key cogs in the machine.

He meant Leclaire! All of the other players skate up and down the ice. Right…?

You missed the second half of Brodeur's quote

“I was as happy as a kid in a candy store, although not quite as happy as my distant cousin in a candy store.”

Crap. That is horrible.

It is horrible indeed.

But why is Keller on the fourth line? That seems like it will limit his effectiveness.

Who else plays there?

Foligno? Neil? We’re pretty much out of players, heh.

But you can’t drop an AHLer on the 2nd line right away. I’m sure with all the adjusting Clouston does in-game, the fourth line is just to give Keller some confidence and see how he feels. I bet he’ll get moved if he’s flying.

I guess that's a good point.

He’ll have to work pretty damn hard to look good enough on the fourth line to justify a move up, though.

your negativity has no place here. I formally ban you for all eternity or until the GDT, whichever comes first.

Sens’ are starting to look like the ‘Hawks a couple weeks ago when they played MontrĂ©al without Toews, Seabrook, Hossa, Bolland, Burish, Hjalmarsson, and after 3 minutes in Ladd. It became a drinking game of ’name that player’ on the ’Hawks that night. It became a night of “Shoot the puck!….whoever you are?….Dowell? Bickell? Hendry? Smolenak? WTF?”

It's never about the eventual destination, but rather the long journey and its challenging obstacles that are presented and what it takes to overcome them, that makes the taste of success all the more worthwhile!!!

Man, no kidding

It seems many teams are playing without full lineups right now. Hopefully the team will be healthy for the playoffs.

Keller's 13 goals...

…lead the AHL in scoring, apparently. I’m too lazy to double check.

I double-checked and it does lead the AHL in goal scoring, but not overall scoring. The next closest is some guy named Brandon Bochenski with 12. But that’s probably a fluke, and Tyler Arnason could do way better.

I've had good experience with the name Keller

so I’m calling a win and a point for Keller tonight.

Is that your last name,

or did you just make out with someone with that last name?
