Volchenkov Injured, Brian Lee Recalled

No surprise here: the Ottawa Senators announced that Anton Volchenkov is going to be missing time (likely a couple of weeks), due to an elbow injury sustained in last night's game against the Florida Panthers. Anton left the game during the third period.

In his place tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning (and almost certainly throughout the injury) will be Brian Lee, who has been recalled from Binghamton. It came as a bit of a shock to most when Lee did not make the big club after training camp, and I expect he'll be giving a strong effort to try and prove his worth to the Ottawa brass in hopes that he can stay in the NHL. Lee played 53 games for the Senators last season, tallying 13 points.

No real surprise here. It’s weird to say so early in a career, but Lee is running out of chances. Hopefully he makes the most of this one.

Ok, positives

Brian Lee gets a chance to show he’s developed something on the defensive end. AND, he’s a bit more a PP asset than Anton is so maybe with him and Kuba back, our PP will get going.

Maybe this reduces Volchenkov’s contract extension leverage a smidge, allowing Murray to get a better deal.

It’ll feel great when he comes back if the team is still playing at a high level because it’ll be like trading for a top line defenseman!

Did you steal that from my prediction in the Citizen? I called that very same score.

I hope we’re both wrong?
